how to burn multiple CDs simultaneously?
I need more info on burning an image from the hard drive to multiple
internal atapi CD writers simultaneoulsy.
So far I have found the following:
Identical burners with the same firmware version works best.
No burners can share the same ribbon cable for it to work properly.
Requires software that supports multiples (like Nero 6).
PCI IDE cards can be used. One card has 2 connectors and can support 2
drives.
I have burned successfully with 2 burners, which is the number of bays
I have in my current case.
Questions:
What is the practical limit of internal IDE burners that can be burned
to at the same time? Is it 4, or maybe 6?
Are there minimum specs for motherboard/CPU for it to work properly?
What about power supply requirements?
I want to have a system built. I know there are prebuilt dedicated
towers that do burning only, but I want a computer with multiple
internal burners.
If anyone has experience doing this and can educate me, or point me
toward a 'how to' resource, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

I can't give you an exact number. as the practical limit is dependant on
the system running it.
1) The greatest limiting factor will be the number of available 5.25" bays
available on the tower
2) Next will be available IDE slots on the Motherboard + PCI/IDE cards
3) Space for all the IDE cables is a consideration
4) You are correct that power and processor are important (also a
function of the number of drives) Get something very high end. Get a High
end Motherboard too
5) But so is RAM (get 1GB +)
6) Adequite cooling (more power = more heat) there are 2 parts to this:
a) the case design
b) cooling system (fan or liquid)
7) The OS. Do NOT get XP "home" for this if you are really going into it.
Get the Pro version. For Heavens sake stay away from win 95/98/ME. I do
not know enough about mac or linux to either recommend or disrecommend
either of these.
this said, you should really consider dedicated towers/jukeboxes/cd
chagers and the like
I might be of more help if i knew what your application for this spiffy
new machine is.
