There are some reports today on Adobe's InDesign forum of a few
glitches with this update, e.g., some Firewire hard drives not
recognized as existing. It might be prudent to wait for a bit on this
one.

"Important Note:
Apple has identified an issue with external FireWire hard drives using
the Oxford 922 bridge chip-set with firmware version 1.02 that can
result in the loss of data stored on the disk drive. Even with the
improvements available in this update, Apple recommends you update the
firmware on your FireWire drive. Please contact your drive
manufacturer for more information. "

Are Mac OS X 10.5.8's iLife programs safe to use in Mac OS X 10.7.x and 10.8.x?
Hi. Someone told me that Mac OS X 10.7.x and 10.8.x do not come with iLife like the older Mac OS X versions (e.g., 10.5.x). I did not know this! Since my client uses iPhoto that came preinstalled on his old 2008 MacBook Pro's Mac OS X 10.5.x (10.5.8 right now), can he use the old one from 10.5.8? Or will he need a third party replacement (needs to import/copy the old image files) or buy a new iPhoto version for his photo(graph)s? I recalled he did not like iPhoto and wonder if the new one is any better. Thank you in advance. :) -- Quote of the Week: "Every ruler...

Mac OS X Kerberos Extras updated for Mac OS X 10.3
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Just a reminder to coincide with today's release of Mac OS X 10.3 ("Panther"), the MIT Kerberos team has released an updated version of the Mac OS X Kerberos Extras that work with both Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther). The Mac OS X Kerberos Extras allow CFM-based applications, such as Eudora and Fetch, to work with OS X's built-in Kerberos. Older releases of the OS X Kerberos Extras will not work with Mac OS X 10.3. You must have the latest release (which was released back in June) for it to work with Panther. However...

Cursor in Mac OS X 10.5.6 w/X11 2.2.3 and 2.3.2
Hi, I know this problem has come up before, but I was unable to find a solution that worked in the group. The problem: cursor,x,y,/down or any variation results in a dead terminal and X-window. Using ctrl- c at the terminal and then clicking on the terminal works: IDL> cursor,x,y,/down,/device % Interrupted at: $MAIN$ IDL> print,x,y 522 105 Using "defaults write com.apple.x11 wm_click_through -bool true" has no effect. Installing the latest version of IDL (7.0.6) also had no effect. The error occurs both with IDL run remotely and locally. I've tried bo...

Mac OS X 10.3.7 upgrated to 10.3.9 won't boot

Bus Error asprintf. OS X 10.3.6. gcc 3.3

Using the following code: #include <string.h> #include <stdio.h> int main() { char **w; asprintf(w,"fooo"); printf("%s\n",*w); return 0; } and compiling using gcc with the -lc and -Wall flags, I get no erros. Apple Mac OS X 10.6 support & compatability with Python 3 ?
I've been given a MAC AIR laptop with OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard". On my desktop I dual boot with XP - Ubuntu and have Python on both. Unfortunately all my Python programs are written on Windows XP and I heavily rely on WConio for console I/O. Called Apple tech support. The technician had never heard of Python, ascertained the MAC AIR does not come preloaded with Python and did not know if Python 3 would run under OS X 10.6. This was "beyond" their expertise. Does anyone have experience with OS X ? Could I use WConio in a Windows emulator ? I have no experience with MACs and am debating whether to send this back before opening. Thanks. repeated useless pauses in Eudora 6.0 and Mac OS X 10.3
All, I'm using Eudora 6.0 on a G4. After upgrading from Jaguar to Panther (10.2.x to 10.3.x) Eudora has started pausing for 4-5 seconds every other minute or so. The rainbow pinwheel spins even though there's nothing it needs to be doing at that time. (It only checks mail every 15 minutes, while this behavior is much more frequent.) It's starting to get really annoying. Any ideas whether upgrading to the latest version of Eudora (6.2 the last time I checked) will end this behavior? How do I install GMPY 1.11 on a Mac with OS X 10.6 and Python 3.1?
Ok, so I got a MacBook Air. Has OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and Python 2.6.1 already installed. So I install Xcode, download macports and download gmpy-1.11rc1. cc65 on Mac OS X 10.3.x?
I just dusted off my old AIM 65, (a late 1970's early 1980's SBC), I though it might be interesting to make a small controller device using an SBC, and since I uses to do 6502 code many, many years ago, and I still have the AIM 65, I thought I could use it as the development platform. Anyway, I was looking around and I found an open source c comiler for 6502 and it will work on UNIX, so it sounded like a good match, maybe do the program in c instead of assembler. Anyway, I downloaded the compiler source, applied the patches the source and compiled it. I seems to compile OK, but now ...

Pbuffers on Mac OS X 10.3.x
In my quest for hiding the platform-specific details of pbuffer manipulation in my engine, I am now trying to get this to work on the Macintosh. The Apple documentation is not enough to help me over the rough spots (may05devdoc.dmg and its associated OpenGL pdf)--a verbal description of the order of calls and what they do, but not a single code sample to go with it. Sorry, Apple folks, but some of us are not mind readers. I downloaded the sample Xcode project, GLCarbon1ContextPbuffer, but found it quite awkward and hackish--the pbuffer code and application code are intertwined. A cleaner s...
