Microsoft Security Center gives governments patch data
Microsoft is launching a new programme that will enable governments to
reverse engineer patches and develop exploit code and also open the
risk of rogue employees giving hand outs to the bad guys.
Read more of "Microsoft reveals govt patch previews" at ZDNet
Australia.
This is a bad move by Microsoft.

Protect Your Computer From Spyware
Spyware - this is one of the biggest threats to security and privacy
in the internet today. Spyware intrude, break and enter our computers
and pose a great threat especially with more malicious spywares.
Leaving a home or business computer unprotected from spyware is just
like leaving the front door open to intruders. The internet was not
designed with security checks in place, that is why spywares have
spread unchecked and now pose a big threat to the security and privacy
of millions of internet users all over the world. Roughly 90% of
computers today are infected or are vulnerable to

I am using a LiveCD with pre-installed Firefox for on-line banking

I believe that this is the safest option because I assume that nothing
can be saved to the LiveCD (malware, etc).
Am I correct?

Oulook Encrypt but no Plain Text store
I have Outlook set up for signing and encryption but when I get an
encrypted email I simply have to go to the mailbox and there it is. I
do not like that. I do not want anyone at the computer to be able to
read it. I want to be required to enter the Pass Phrase for my
encryption key every single time I go to read something .
Second, I do not want the data after I read it to remain ANYWHER on my
system in plain text fo9rm. Is this possible? It is with True Crypt
but that of course is not integrated with OUTLOOK.
Am I dreaming here?

Weird problem with hotel internet last night
I regularly stay at a hotel and use their free wireless internet. Last
night, any time I connected to an https web site, I got a warning from
my browser that the certificate was not trustworthy because it is self-
signed. I clicked on "show details", and the certificate was signed by
the hotel.
I called reception, and they had no idea what I was talking about.
They gave me a 'phone number for their IT support, so I called them.
First line support had no idea what I was talking about either, they
just said "Click on Accept, does it work? What's the problem? If it
works, why worry?" b

ircbrute
I just destroyed a USB fob because I found IRCBUTE/Taquito on it.
I am trying to find out if it got there from a browser (likeliest
suspect) or from opening PDF files. Can it just get there by using the
file system? I believe I got it by downloading two zip files (my own
files) using a browser at a public library.

online banking
Unfortunately, I may need to occasionally use puiblic access pc's for
banking on the move.
The pc's use Windows software and IE.
Can anyone suggest some freeware that I can carry on a pen drive that
will secure Windows (from loggers, etc).
I have a facility that protects passwords and the bank uses https.
Thanks

Different stacks for return addresses and data?
Hi,
I wondered whether it would be possible to use different stacks for
return addresses and data to eliminate the harm of buffer overflows
except in unlikely circumstances (e.g. if you have function pointers
saved in data structures)
I don't think you even had the need to make x86-incompatible
processors; you just would have to specify alternatives to push and
pop writing to a dedicated data stack...
Does anything speak against this?
Greetings,
Joris
