Processes that have controlling terminals are given a "shortcut" to
their terminal device via the /dev/tty device.

If a process /does not/ have a controlling terminal (such as the
situation with most daemon processes), then /dev/tty (for that
process) does not connect to anything, and an attempt to open it will
result in the "no such device" error.

You imply that your failing sftp is running via a daemon process. If
so, then it /wont/ have a /dev/tty, and sftp's attempt to open that
device will fail. Commands run from the commandline have the
commandline's terminal device as the controlling terminal, and thus /
those processes/ can access /dev/tty. This explains why your daemon-
spawned sftp fails while your manually-spawned sftp succeeds.

Find a way to tell your daemon-spawned sftp to /not/ open /dev/tty.
This should fix your problem.

can't make DVD/CD device open to 'wheel' permanently
I'm having lots of 'fun' trying to get MPlayer to work (generally) and with playing DVDs. I am using a T22 Thinkpad I installed FreeBSD 6 on, and generally, I've been able to muddle through getting all the various devices to work (sound, graphics, etc.) but have been stymied by the DVD/CD aspect, namely: 1) during install, it created acd0 (cd rom) and ad0 (dvd) devices. When i'm using my regular user account, though, i keep getting permissions issues with using them. If I go to a command prompt or use Konqueror as root, I can assign these devices to the user group my regular user is in, BUT, when I reboot, it keeps resetting them back to 'operator' - this is driving me NUTS - why can't it respect a change I made as root and KEEP the change? 2) I can get MPlayer to work but it keeps giving me errors for accessing DVDs (namely 'can't open VMG info!', etc. - nor does sound work. I have tried uninstalling/changing versions several times/recompiling, etc. but nothing seems to get to success. I had a similar problem when using redhat 7 on an earlier Thinkpad but when I upgraded to RH9, that problem went away... thoughts? amigaboy amigaboy wrote: > regular user is in, BUT, when I reboot, it keeps resetting them back to > 'operator' - this is driving me NUTS - why can't it respect a change I > made as root and KEEP the change? because the change was made on a filesystem populate...

Net::SSH::Perl -- can't map service name 'ssh' to port number
I have installed Net::SSH::Perl on Solaris 2.8. Perl version is 5.005_03. To keep it simple, let's say my script is housed on domain A, and I'm trying to ssh to domain B and run a command (pwd). When I run my script, I get the error report: can't map service name 'ssh' to port number at ./test-ssh.pl line 7. I am running the script as the user 'perl.' I have confirmed the user perl can ssh from the command line on domain A to domain B. Needless to say, ssh is in perl's path. Here are a few lines from test-ssh.pl: #!/usr/local/bin/perl -w use strict; use Net::SSH::Perl; my $diag = 1; my $host = '20.6.17.172'; print "Create ssh object for host $host\n" if $diag == 1; my $ssh = Net::SSH::Perl->new($host); # <<<<<< this is line 7 What am I missing here? /dennis On Mon, 11 Aug 2003 17:22:11 -0500, Dennis Daupert wrote: > I have confirmed the user perl can ssh from the command line on > domain A to domain B. Can't Open VB Editor and VB scrip won't run AFTER reopening database
I created a database, thought all was fine until I quit it and opened it again. The VB wouldn't run, I couldn't open the editor from design view of any form, and when I tried to open it through the menu, all I would get is a corrupted window (no scroll up button, no way to access the Project Explorer) containing just the one module I had, but I couldn't get to the Class Objects. I tried to compact and repair it, and decompile (that crashed Access). I then made a copy, set the Has Module property for all forms to No, imported everything into a new database, and wrote the code again (this time I exported all the class objects and the module before quitting in case I need them later). It was working fine until I quit it and opened it up again. Something else I tried (well I've tried all sorts of things) was to import just the tables and queries into a new database, create new forms, and copy and past the form objects on to them. I then copied and pasted the script back into the Class Objects. I thought there might have been something that was corrupted in one of the forms, and this was a way to avoid it. No joy. From much playing, I've come to the conclusion (I think) that if I import anything from this database into a new one, it will screw up the new one in the same manner. What's left to try? I'm not starting again so I'm prepared to give this up, it was just a more improved version of an already existing database I'...

You problem is that you can't read/write theses values from/to the disk. I suppose you're using the USB image I am providing on 9legacy.org. A nvram partition is present, but I haven't properly configured the plan9.ini to use an nvram on the USB disk. You can simply mount the first FAT partition from the USB disk, edit the plan9.ini and add the "readparts=" parameter in the [common] section, just before the "nvram=" parameter, like this: readparts= nvram=/dev/sdXX/nvram If you are curious how this USB image was built, you can look at the mkusbboot(8) script provided in the Plan 9 distribution, or check my notes available on: http://www.9legacy.org/9legacy/doc/fossil/usb There is...
