Modeling road traffic and lift use.

What should one read (books preferably) on the subject of modelling such
things as flows of traffic at junctions and people using lifts?

I'm looking for an account of the mathematics, and pseudo code would not
be unwelcome.

Confession: I've no idea whether I'm posting to appropriate groups.
Presumably the traffic and the people, etc, show some chance-like
variation in their behaviour (hence alt.sci.math.probability) and I'm
hoping that simulation covers modelling.

There's the Poisson Distribution, which gives the probability of a
certain number of cars going through a junction or people arriving to
use a lift in a certain time period.
