[ace-users] Re: [tao-support] Has ACE 5.4.4/TAO 1.4.4 been built with gcc 4.0.0 yet

We just added GCC 4.0.0 support to ACE+TAO recently. The forthcoming
x.4.5 beta should work nicely with GCC 4.0.0. We hope to have this
available very shortly (there's just one remaining snag with typecodes
that should be fixed in the next day or so). If you'd like to give
things a try before we release x.4.5 please download the contents of
ACE+TAO from our CVS repo at

http://cvs.doc.wustl.edu/

and see if it works for you on your platform. If not, please let us
know and we'll try to make sure that it's working before we put out
the beta release.

Thanks,

        Doug

I've tried the CVS version on macosx 10.4, with gcc4.0 and still got
the same intantiation problem.

I don't have access to a macosx 10.4 box so I can't comment about the
pending x.4.5 beta's g++ 4.0 support on it.  The g++ 4.0 support in the
pending beta is tested daily in our automated builds on a Debian
GNU/Linux box (see the "Debian_GCC_4.0" build on our Scoreboard at
http://www.dre.vanderbilt/edu/Scoreboard/ ). We've had some discussions
with other Mac OS X Tiger users regarding some templates issues, and
hope to resolve the issues soon.

Robert, the pending beta should work with your g++ 4.0 Fedora Core x86
installation. However, the g++ 4.0 support is still very new. We
haven't had time to iron out all of the kinks, most of which are
probably due to RTTI problems caused by inlined virtual functions and
the use of g++ 4.0's symbol visibility support

If you want some info in the macosx 10.4 field, or if want me to do
some tests, I'll be glad to help.
I'm able to build and use ACE/TAO compiling only the static libs.

Hi Eider,

Great! Would you be able to check out the latest pre-x.4.5 beta
sitting in our CVS repo at

http://cvs.doc.wustl.edu/

and let us know if you can get it working on MacOSX 10.4? If there
are simple fixes we might be able to get it into the x.4.5 beta!

Thanks,
