[ace-users] Re: fetching error description from ACE error
Hi Tal, To ensure that we have proper version/platform/compiler information, please make sure you fill out the appropriate problem report form (PRF), which is in $ACE_ROOT/PROBLEM-REPORT-FORM $TAO_ROOT/PROBLEM-REPORT-FORM or in $ACE_ROOT/BUG-REPORT-FORM $TAO_ROOT/BUG-REPORT-FORM in older versions of ACE+TAO. Make sure to include this information when asking any questions about ACE+TAO since otherwise we have to "guess" what version/platform/compiler/options you've using, which is error-prone and slows down our responsiveness. >> Is there a way to fetch the last error description? The ACE_ERROR >> macro seems to do just that internally: ACE_ERROR >> ((LM_ERROR,"%p\n","connect")); Sure - you can simply use ACE_OS::strerr() or ACE_OS::perror(). Take care, Doug -- Dr. Douglas C. Do NOT use virtual memory/out of memory error?
I would much prefer if MATLAB would just give me an "Out of Memory" message and refuse to continue executing my code if/when it runs out of physical RAM and feels the need to start using virtual memory. The reason is that virtual memory is so slow on my computer that I usually need to kill MATLAB or perform a hard reboot (or wait a week!) on my system if I accidentally run any sort of code that exhausts my RAM (64-bit MATLAB on Windows Vista 64-bit FYI). Is there a way to do this in MATLAB, or must I just limit my virtual memory via the OS settings? "J RP" <philNO...

Why do I get out of memory errors when 10GB memory is free?
I am on HP UNIX 64bit 11.23 titanium using oracle 10.2.0.3. My server has 24GB memory and of that 10GB is free (as seen in glance). When I doing oracle exp or rman commands, I get: ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 1049112 bytes (KSFQ heap,KSFQ Buffers) I checked both rman and exp are 64bit executables, so they should be able to access all the memory on the system. odd error message, possible memory error
Hi, I am running some home-brewed code for simulated annealing. The code takes in an initial set of parameters, and then does repeated optimizations for a specified number of cycles. The code works to completion for one set of parameter values. However, for a second set of initial parameters I get the following error (running on linux): ??? Index exceeds matrix dimensions. Error in ==> neldmeadStep>Pstep at 111 pode = pval(1:dimp); Error in ==> neldmeadStep at 42 [pe,Ge] = Pstep(pr,pctr, tols.ce); %peprop = tols.ce*pr+(1-tols.ce)*pctr; The code runs fine for this second set of initial parameters when I set a small number of cycles. When I run the code on a windows installation, I get the error: ??? Index exceeds matrix dimensions. [ace-users] ACE SSL build errors on Ubuntu 12.10 with ACE+TAO version 6.1.0

[ACE]: [ACE-BUGS] Possible memory leak in ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream
To: ace-bugs@cs.wustl.edu Subject: [ACE]: [ACE-BUGS] ACE VERSION: 5.3 HOST MACHINE and OPERATING SYSTEM: Intel P4 2.8 Win 2000 Server SP4 COMPILER NAME AND VERSION (AND PATCHLEVEL): Microsoft VC++ 6.0 SP5. Open SSL 0.9.7 CONTENTS OF $ACE_ROOT/ace/config.h: #include "ace/config-win32.h" AREA/CLASS/EXAMPLE AFFECTED: SSL / ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream / Memory Leak DOES THE PROBLEM AFFECT: COMPILATION? LINKING? EXECUTION: yes OTHER (please specify)? SYNOPSIS: Server using ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream shows memory leak upon connection termination with client. DESCRIPTION: I followed the code of ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream's constructor into its ::SSL_new call (this->ssl_ = ::SSL_new (ctx->context ()) ) in which the SSL library performed an action similar to a deep-copy of the context object, which was declared as a singleton. However, I couldn't allocate a method in which the copied context object was released. SAMPLE FIX/WORKAROUND: This is how I tacked the problem above. ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream::~ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream (void) { ACE_TRACE ("ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream::~ACE_SSL_Asynch_Stream"); // It is safe to delete stream if all notifications are received, // i.e., state is SF_DELETE_ENABLE or if proactor event loop is // done. if (this->flags_ & SF_STREAM_OPEN) // open if ((this->flags_ & SF_DELET...

[ace-users]: ACE Memory address types question
ACE VERSION: 5.4 HOST MACHINE and OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows XP, default WINSOCK version. Visual Studio 6.0 sp5 CONTENTS OF $ACE_ROOT/ace/config.h: #include "ace/config-win32.h" Hello, All! I have question about ACE Memory address types. I noticed that a) ACE_MEM_Stream::PEER_ADDR type is *ACE_Addr* b) ACE_MEM_Acceptor class works with *ACE_MEM_Addr* type c) ACE_MEM_Connector class works with *ACE_INET_Addr* type Why different types are used? E.g. I expect to create memory acceptor with the same address that memory connector uses. And having different types is unclear for me here. Can you provide any light on this, please? Best Regards, Voronkov Konstantin Hello, Narbor! I do not think this is much important, but for simplification of ACE library it may make sence to use only MEM_Addr, because from user POV, MEM_Addr does not provide any way to know/control MMAP file identification, at least I was not been able to find any. That MMAP file control and identification logic is encapsulated and invisible for users. Thus user may avoid the need in additional type casting. Best Regards, Konstantin P.S. I know that if would be great if I provide something more concrete then just notes, and I will try to manage mine time for it :-) ...

[ace-users] Re: shared memory queues in ACE ?
Hi Dhanvi, >> Are there any simple examples that I can compile and learn ACE >> from? Also When I try and compile Ace 5.4.6 on a Fedora Core3 >> system, the linking for the libACE.so is succesful but the linking >> for the other shared libraries ( viz.: qt, SSL, X11) fails.. are >> they neccessary for me to have a working copy of ACE ? To ensure that we have proper version/platform/compiler information, please make sure you fill out the appropriate problem report form (PRF), which is in $ACE_ROOT/PROBLEM-REPORT-FORM $TAO_ROOT/PROBLEM-REPORT-FORM or in $ACE_ROOT/BUG-REPORT-FORM $TAO_ROOT/BUG-REPORT-FORM in older versions of ACE+TAO. Make sure to include this information when asking any questions about ACE+TAO since otherwise we have to "guess" what version/platform/compiler/options you've using, which is error-prone and slows down our responsiveness. >> what I want to accomplish using ACE is to have multiple threads >> having communicating among each other asynchronously using shared >> memory queues..I would like to know what are the modules that I >> need to get compiled ? Check out ACE_Message_Queue and ACE_Message_Block for examples of how to have threads communicate via queues within a process. The C++NPv1 and C++NPv2 books describe these classes in more detail. You could also check out ACE_Malloc<> for examples of how to allocate/share memory between p...
