### How to solve an implicit system?

• Email
• Follow

```I've to solve the following (simplificated) system:
y[t+1]=y[t]+(y[t+1]-y[t])+(z[t+1]-z[t])
z[t+1]=z[t]+(y[t+1]-y[t])+(z[t+1]-z[t])
I would like to choose the iterative way, but I don't know how to
start. Anyway any solution is accepted!
Solving many Equations Systems #2
I have to solve the equations system A*x=M, with [n,n]=size(A and B), m times, where n is about 4000 and m is about 500. A and B are ALWAYS SYMMETRIC. -What should be the faster command to do this if A is sparse? -And if A is not sparse? thanks, Cristobal. PD: B is in general full. Your message isn't clear. You write A*x=M then discuss "B". Does A change each of the m times? Does B? Is A symmetric positive definite (not just symmetric)? What version of MATLAB do you have? Assuming B changes but not A, then if A is sparse pos. definite, and assuming the latest MATLAB, do th...
Using NMinimize to solve a system of equations
Hi, I am trying to use NMinimize to solve a system of equations, but I have been plagued with OverFlow, Underflow and division by zero problems when I change my F, L and WorkingPrecision. Is there any other method in Mathematica to get reliable solutions to my equations ? In[43]:= f[F_, L_] := E^(-((F/a)^b/b)) - E^(-((L/a)^b/b)); NMinimize[{0, f[100, 1000]/f[1000, 2613.01757776] == 2768.91499137093/3351.95653836949 && f[1000, 2613.01757776]/f[5000, 10000] == 3351.95653836949/1680 && f[100, 1000]/f[5000, 10000] == 2768.91499137093/ 1680...
Solving coupled system of PDE and ODE with pdepe?
Hi, I've been searching previous posts, but I couldn't find a definitive answer to my question. I am trying to determine if the pdepe solver is able to solve the coupled system of one PDE and one ODE below, and if it can, how do you handle the non-existent boundary condition for the ODE? (actually my system will contain more ODEs, but I am thinking that if pdepe can solve the case below, it can handle the situation with more ODEs also). The reason I am asking, is that I have tried a method-of-lines approach (discretizing in space and solving the resulting ODE system), but I am gettin...
Solving nonlinear equation system with lsqnonlin
Hello all, I working with the nonlinear solver lsqnonlin in order to solve a nonlinear equation system f(x)-g(x) = 0. There two different types of equations in this system, ie. f1(x)-g1(x) and f2(x)-g2(x). The absolute values of the f and g are very different for these two types. The first ist about 1 and the other in the range of 1*10-6. This means that although I have quite good starting values, the values of the two equations f1(x0)-g1(x0) and f2(x0)-g2(x0) are extremly differing by many orders of magnitude. Because of that, lsqnonlin is only optimizing the first equations with the larger ...
system.invalidoperationexception & system.typeinitialization exceptions
hi, i created a project that runs well on my computer. this project is a communication program. i publish it to a folder on a network server, and allowed all possible permissions to all users. i can run the executable from my computer, but when i run it from other computers i constantly get (after installation and before program starts) 2 exceptions: system.invalidoperationexception (on 2 copmuters - one with win2000 and one xp) or system.typeinitialization (on other 2 copmuters with win2000). after few small changes of the code and publish parameters, i got on the last 2 computers other excep...
solved ODE and solved PDE and adding a variable for both
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated Regards Ib > Hi > > I have solved ODE's system, geat thanks for Jan and > Steve > and I have solved a PDE equation that gets parameters > from the ODE's eq , thanks Steve > Each one has be...
Certified System Administrator for the Solaris 10 Operating System
As a Senior System Administrator, you are expected to provide direction and be completely responsible for the uptime and maintenance of an extremely visible platform for a really large audience. This role will gain a lot of recognition and will be an integral part of really state of the art initiative in the enterprise. Extremely important that this person be in the Bay-area and relatively close to Menlo Park, CA. The person should be able to get onsite in case of emergencies (hopefully very infrequent). This person needs to be connected to the net most of the time, extremely responsive to em...
Return-Code of "system" on a 64-bit system
Upgrading VMS on a system where hardware is newer than the system disk OS supports
Here's a new one for us. I've never had this come up, and I can't do a test run due to lack of hardware. We have a customer with a DS10 running V7.2-1. They're going to upgrade to a DS15, which has a minimum VMS requirement of V7.3-1 (plus TIMA). There is a miniscule downtime window. Since doing a V7.2-1 upgrade to V7.3-1 or newer on the DS10 is not feasible due to time, I'm wondering if the following is supported. Image backup the DS10 disks to tape, then restore on the DS15 disks using the CD boot environment. We won't try to boot the DS15 on the V7.2-1 system ...
Solaris system locks up when left unattended. ?<System in Suspend mode>?
Hello everyone, I am installing the OS and testing a Sun V420R. As you all know the install process for Solaris 10 is rather lengthy, well I left the machine installing Solaris overnight and expected to come back in this morning and find a prompt for the Software Companion CD, but instead the system will not show a display! I tried moving the mouse a bit and tapped a few key combinations to see if i could get it to wake up but it seams to be non-responsive. The odd part of it is that this has happened a few times before -- however this is the first time I have encountered it durring an i...
RE: Upgrading VMS on a system where hardware is newer than the system disk OS supports
Rich, Been there done that exactly as you said. Had a similar situation with an AS2100 and a new DS25. V7.2-2 OS which I wanted to clone for a new DS25 test system running V7.3-1. Image backed up the old V7.2-2 system pack, restored the drive via a network connection, then booted the DS25 off the V7.3-1 CD and told it to upgrade the restored system disk. No problems; worked like a charm.
