Re: Re: Complex Analysis using Mathematica
David, Thank you for your response Basically, what I am trying to accomplish is to prove orthogonal conditions of complex eigenfunctions I have a matrix A A=I-Identity matrix And i have the state space eigenvectors phi_real={Re[v]-Im[v],lamda*Re[v]-Im[v]} phi_imag={Re[v]+Im[v],lamda*Re[v]+Im[v]} phi=phi_real+i*phi_imag Where v is the eigenfunction say Sinh[lamda*x] <A*phi,phi>=2*I = --><w1,w2>=Integrate[Transpose[w1]*Conjugate[w2]],{x,0,1}]-->(I don't know whether this is the correct way to go about it) lamda is some imaginary eigenvalue, lamda=a...

Re: Using Mathematica
Mathematica is a great tool for anybody who has the time and interest to learn its syntax and apply its programming language. There are many people who have great ideas they want to execute with Mathematica but don't have the time to develop there own applications. I'm thinking specifically about classroom teachers. They want to show their class a comparison of two functions and explore shift behaviors. They want to explain the concepts of limits, derivatives, and integrals with graphics and computational ability at their finger tips to illustrate ideas. The want to show how ...

Re: Using Mathematica for Electrophysiology Data
Thanks Sjoerd! This works very well. I was indeed hoping to return the binning method as well, but this is not so important. The fitting is no problem now that I can build a frequency table from the histogram data. (And, yes, I always want to put an uppercase "L" in "NonlinearModelFit"!) To sum up: Data is imported into Mathematica as a list of time values and a matching list of amplitudes; then I apply {g, {binCounts}} == Reap[ Histogram[ listOfAmplitudesInPa, Automatic, Function[ {bins, counts}, Sow[{bins, counts}]; counts]]...

OpenGL Refresh problem using CsGL with VB.NET
Hi, I have an application I have written in VB.NET. Part of the application is to display 3D models of buildings and allow the user to zoom and rotate around them. I have implemented this using the CsGL wrapper library with OpenGL. When it works, it works very well. I have a problem though. On some systems, the 3D view (which is available on a sub-dialog from the main form shown modally) does not always refresh. By that I mean that sometimes you can end up with a situation where just whatever is behind the 3D View control is shown solidly, e.g. word document, desktop etc. It remains, sometim...

Tao Crashes on Laptop
Hi, Having given up on CsGL, I have recently integrated the Tao OpenGL components into a VB.NET application that I am developing. I have a problem though in that it works fine on two of the machines we have, but on one of the laptops it crashes. When I say crashes, I mean the CPU use goes to 100% and the application hangs. The only way to recover is to kill it from the Task Manager. The application is a CAD package and it has a "3D Viewer" and "3D Editor" which come up in modal windows from the main form. I am creating the 3D control as an inherited control from the Tao.P...

Re: fyi, small note on using Mathematica for object based programming
Another technique for defining object attributes and methods that seems to work at first glance is to use upvalues. I have only played with this at an elementary level and do not know if there are any pitfalls with more complex usages. Has anyone tried this? Kurt Example In[91]:= newAnimal[n_, s_] := Module[{uniqueID = Unique["animal"]}, ID[a_Animal] ^= uniqueID; name[a_Animal] ^= n; sound[a_Animal] ^= s; makeSound[a_Animal] ^:= For[i = 0, i < 5, i++, Print[sound[a]]]; uniqueID] In[92]:= myanimal = Animal[id = newAnimal[lion, roar]] Ou...

serial IrDA communication for PPC 2003 using VB.Net 2003
I am trying to write a program in VB.Net 2003 for PPC 2003. Is there a way to perform serial communication through PPC's IrDA port, similar to PC's COM1 or COM2 ports? Do I need an IrDA port on my development PC to test the feature in MS PPC 2003 emulator? Does anyone have any sample code that works? I am looking for the same thing. Did you ever get an answer to your question. Thanks, ...

Using re.VERBOSE, and re-using components of regex?
Hi, I'm trying to compile a regex Python with the re.VERBOSE flag (so that I can add some friendly comments). However, the issue is, I normally use constants to define re-usable bits of the regex - however, these doesn't get interpreted inside the triple quotes. For example: import re TIMESTAMP = r'(?P<timestamp>\d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2}.\d{9})' SPACE = r' ' FOO = r'some_regex' BAR = r'some_regex' regexes = { 'data_sent': re.compile(""" ...

Hmmm, maybe... Let's see ax := {{Subscript[ax, 1, 1], Subscript[ax, 1, 2]}, {Subscript[ax, 2, 1], Subscript[ax, 2, 2]}} is not a good idea, since evaluation of ax gives an infinite loop. Re: [LogoForum] Re: Plotting ... [ .NET Logo]
Someone needs to write or convert a version to .NET operation (if not so far). There is a single-person effort to write a completely new Logo _compiler_ of sorts for .NET called MonoLogo, which can be seen and source downloaded from sourceforge.net . (Actually it is for the Mono version of .NET, but I think it would easily work with Microsoft .NET with a little work.) It is intended to be compatible with both ObjectLogo and MSWLogo, if I am not mistaken. But I don't think that effort is far enough along for the level of usage you are suggesting. It compiles by translating to C# then...

Re: Re: my mathematica no longer renders graphics, even after reinstall
You need to be really sure that you have the latest drivers for your graphic card.
