read multiple text files to one file
Hello, I am trying to read multiple text files with different names and write them to a single file. I have several n x 3 text files (n varies across files), and would like to read all these files and combine their columns into one m x 3 text file (m is the number of data points from all the files). Also, how can I perform a paired t-test on specific columns of text files situated in different directories ? Thanks ! Converting A Unicode Text File to An ASCII Text File
We have a large number of text files built in Unicode that we need to be read by SAS. SAS does not read Unicode text. To convert the Unicode text to ASCII text we did the following: A Unicode text file adds an additional blank space to each character. To remove this blank character, you can use the code below. The hexidecimal value '00' is a blank character. So remove it using the SAS statement '00'x. The 'x' tells SAS you are reading hexidecimal. Use RECFM=N to tell SAS that you are reading a stream of data that will not conform to a typical file structure. SAS will treat the file as a very long single record. data _null_; infile 'c:\xmlfile.xml' recfm=n; file 'c:\ascifile.txt' recfm=n; input c $1.; if c ne '00'x then put c $1.; run; ...

Import Multiple Excel Files into Multiple files or One Single File
I was fiddling around with the code below: cd('C:\Users\Excel\Desktop\Excel_Files') d = dir('*.xls'); nfiles = length(d); data = []; for k = 1:nfiles num = xlsread(d(k).name); end It seems to import all files, but overwrites the data in the file, so only the last file imported is actually stored in the Matlab variable. I am trying to figure out a way to import multiple files into multiple Matlab variables. Also, I am trying to figure out a way to import multiple files into one single Matlab variable. Yes. That is what you telling Matlab to do. You are writing num = xlsread(d(k).name); And Matlab is doing just that. It was felt necessary to codify these practices and provide for those features that seemed imminent. The result of that effort was Request for Comments (RFC) #733, "Standard for the Format of ARPA Network Text Message", by Crocker, Vittal, Pogran, and Henderson. Dave, See if a method similar to the one shown at http://xrl.us/okm9z will suffice. You can skip the first part (i.e. using a pipe to build a file with the file names) since you already created that file. Parsing the file name can be done by using the substr function. Re: Reading multiple text files into one dataset #9
Howard, Dave send me one of his data files, off list. It appears that the records are delimited with a single '0d'x (MAC) format. I could not find an option to allow windows SAS to read the files seems windows likes '0A'x or '0D0A'. I wrote a data step to translate '0d'x to '0a'x using RECFM=N. It works and SAS is happy. I suppose that WORD could be used to open and save with proper format and that could be automated with a script.
