Hi, everyone! I try to analytically estimate Cramer-Rao Bound for DOA estimation using the formula for stochastic sygnals and noise: CRB_uncond = (nose_power/(2*L)) * inv(real( (D'*P_orth*D) .* (Sx*A'*R*A*Sx)' )) P_orth = eye(N) - A*inv(A'*A)*A' L - number of samples, R - spatial correlation matrix estimation, A - matrix of signals sterring vectors, D - matrix of steering derivatives, Sx - signal correlation matrix. Then i test that formula in simulation. I estimate Direction-of-Arriva using MUSIC method at the same conditions as CRB. Ansvers i get are very confusing. In example, if i use linear antenna array, SNR=-5dB, two singnals with DOAs [-5 12], L = 200 samples. CRB - 1.0e-05 * 0.0981 0 0 0.1017 but variances of MUSIC method are 1.0e-03 * 0.1807 0.1330 The Difference is too big, i think. What do I do wrong.

Hello, I am wanted know equation on cramer rao lower bound on estimator variance(lowest possible limit on variance) for a given SNR, the number of data point and mathematically expression of the estimator. Hello, I am finding the amplitude of the signal using complex demodulation (quadrature demodulation). I wanted to know maximum accuracy to which the amplitude of the one of the frequency contained in phase modulated signal(which is the input) can be estimated. The accuracy to which the amplitude obtained should be 10^-8 (between actual and estimated by this method). So i wanted to know if there is any cramer rao bound (accuracy to which amplitude of the signal can be estimated). The SNR of the signal is about 55 to 60 dB. waiting for reply with regards praveen praveenkumar1979@rediffmail.com...

Hi, I guess this is more of a math question, but I thought someone here could help me. I'm confused about the different forms of the vector Cramer Rao Bound. Specifically, let x be the parameter vector, and let L(x) be the log pdf. Then the Fisher matrix is (1) E{dL/dx*(dL/dx)'} or (2) -E{d2L/dxdx'} Now I understand the second form- it is a full rank matrix. But form (1) is the product of two vectors- hence, it is rank deficient, and cannot be inverted to obtain the minimum variance. So how are these two forms equivalent? Am I reading the math wrong? Thanks! "Tom Georger...

Hi, I know this has been covered extensively in the past but with your indulgence I'd like to bring up CRLBs again. My problem is this: I've implemeted a method of measuring ( or rather estimating ) the carrier frequency errors in GFSK signals from Bluetooth radios. From many tests on RF IC ATE I have data for the variance of my measurements. Intuitively it seemed sensible that there should be a way of relating the SNR of the captured signal I extract the frequency error from and the measurement variance due to that SNR. Knowing this I can make an objective judgement about the effica...

Dear all, I am trying to retrieve the theoretical value of the time delay estimate when using a chirp signal. According to theory (see http://www.ws.binghamton.edu/fowler/fowler%20personal%20page/EE522_files/EECE%20522%20Notes_08%20Ch_3%20CRLB%20Examples%20in%20Book.pdf slide 4/19), the Cramer Rao Lower Bound should be given by: var(tau_est^2)>=sigma^2/energy_of_derivative_of_chirp This is the theoretical lower bound for the variance of any unbiased estimator of the time delay. Now, the ML estimate of the time delay, according also to theory (see http://www.ws.binghamton.e...

Hi, In the literature, there is a common claim made that the performance of MUSIC for direction of arrival estimation (DOA) is affected when the wrong number of directional sources is assumed. There is no argument presented to support this claim, nor any references given, just the claim. I am curious what the basis for this claim is. Although there are a variety of MUSIC-like methods and a this topic can get complicated, overall, it seems pretty fair to say that when you underestimate the number of sources, it is due to the presence of sources whose signals are weak (relative to the noise fl...
