Digits, VPA, N, Matlab, Mathematica - Doing numerical math

Hello,

Can someone help me with an issue about digits and vpa command? The
limit of digits in matlab is only 50? For example, I've done the
following test:

>> digits

Digits = 100

>> vpa((1+sqrt(5))/2,100)
ans =

1.618033988749894902525738871190696954727172851562500000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

(note the 0's)

Now, using Mathematica i've able to get it:

In[1]:= N[(1+Sqrt[5])/2,100]

Out[1]=
1.618033988749894848204586834365638117720309179805762862135448622705260462818902449707207204189391137

Question 1) : How can I get the same answer in Matlab as I got in
Mathematica? I saw Matlab working with more than 50 digits only with
certains constants like Pi.

Question 2) : Is there any way to output my math expressions like in
Mathematica, Maple, MathCAD or I must convert it to LaTeX each calc I
need to output? The pretty command is ugly and is pure text.
