double click m file opens new matlab session

  • Follow

I'm running R2009a on Win7x64. When I double click a .m file in windows explorer, it proceeds to open a whole new matlab session, even if I'm already running matlab with an open editor window. If I right click the file and choose "Open With: Matlab", it opens the file in the existing Matlab session.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Everything I find is about how to associate .m files with Matlab, and that's not the problem here. I installed Mathematica after Matlab, which I think switched the .m file association away. I switched it back, but the double click problem still lingers. I'm not sure if it's a matlab problem or a windows-talking-to matlab problem . . .

It sounds like you might need to reassociate the extension with MATLAB using
the instructions in the documentation:

Yes, I know you switched the association back, but I believe the utilities
perform an additional step that enables the double-click behavior.

Could you point me to similar instructions for Unix platforms? I have never been able to open m-files in the currently open matlab editor through Nautilus on Ubuntu or RHEL. I'm wondering if there is a command line option for "use current session" but I can't find any information about that.

I don't know if there are any similar instructions for UNIX; if there are, I
don't know where they are.
