Help connect Ms access database

Hello All,

I am trying to connect an MS database without utilizing the help of the "querybuilder", I know how to do that using the "querybuilder" but this can't work as I am trying to do an exe file and be able to use it for other pc's that I have.
I am doing the following, please correct me if I am wrong, but it is not working at all:

dbpath=[matlabroot,'a\toolbox\database\dbdemos\trial.accdb'];
conurl = ['jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb,*.accdb)};' ...
   'DBQ=' dbpath]
conn=database('Trial_now','','','sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver',conurl)

There is not username nor a password for the file. I get the following output
conn =

       Instance: 'Trial_now'
       UserName: ''
         Driver: []
            URL: []
    Constructor: [1x1 com.mathworks.toolbox.database.databaseConnect]
        Message: [1x91 char]
         Handle: 0
        TimeOut: []
     AutoCommit: 'off'
           Type: 'Database Object'

with a
conn.Message

ans =

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

Please help me in doing this.

Regards
Sam

Hi! Is there a MATLAB command which gives access to a .mdb MS Access database or do I need a special driver? Thanks, Andree Hi Andree Ellert, you can use activeXcontrol to interact with MS-Access database. access = actxserver('Access.Application'); returns the handle for Access. set(access, 'Visible', 1); will show the opened Access window. use get(access) and set(access) commands to find the methods available to call. -Vadivelu M =========== http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/toolbox/database/datatool.shtml "Andree Ellert" <ellert@gmx.net/////\\\\\> wrote in message news:eed9874.-1@webx.raydaftYaTP... > Hi! > > Is there a MATLAB command which gives access to a .mdb MS Access > database or do I need a special driver? > > Thanks, > > Andree Andree Ellert wrote: > > > Hi! > > Is there a MATLAB command which gives access to a .mdb MS Access > database or do I need a special driver? > > Thanks, > > Andree <http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/loadFile.do?objectId=4045&objectType=file> -Hardik ...

Need Help on MLM database in MS Access
I am working on a MS Access database to track the sales of a 3 Tier Multi- level Marketing system. I have created a table to track a new RepID and a SponsorID. I have created a query that will show the Sponsor and all of their reps but I am not sure how to show the reps that the second tier has sponsored. Example: RepID 0011 SponsorID 0010 RepID 0012 SponsorID 0010 RepID 0013 SponsorID 0010 The above is easy but I am not sure how to get: RepID 0014 SponsorID 0013 and his SponsorID 0010 Does anyone have any idea of a good way to do this? Thank you, Brent Brent, It concept, it is a hierarchical data problem. Others here have solutions different from the three I know about. Each solution to this problem has its benefits and drawbacks. Study each one to decide which works best for you. Solution 1: Single table joined to itself and modeling a one-to-many relationship between a row in the table and other related rows in the same table. Solution 2: Two tables, one is the detailed information about each thing in the hierarchy (sales representative in your case) and the other is a two column list of primary keys from the first table that lists which thing in the first table is related to the other and modeling a many-to-many relationship between a row in the first table and another row in the first table. Solution 3: Two tables like Solution 2 but with as many columns as are needed in Table 2 to list each level of the hierarchy. This can make navigating...

MS Access 2003-2002 database connectivity
I am new to MS Access database and want to accomplish following. I have a database and report in MS Access 2003. There are multiple users who wants to access and generate their respective reports (self help). Because of certain license restrictions they can not access 2003 installed on my PC. We have a shared drive with 2002 installed on it. I wanted to accomplish a connection between Access 2003 (my PC) and MS Access 2002 (shared drive). I wanted to have 10 mins data refresh in 2002. Finally users will connect to 2002 and generate their report. Please advice me on how to accomplish this. Any pointers, suggestions, guidance will be really appreciated. Thanks and Regards Piyush same program minus the prettier menu bar icons in A2K3. if you have multiple users accessing at the same time, i'd suggest you look into a front-end, back-end setup. should be able to get the details from the help file. MS Access Help: Copying database Relationships

I am trying to make a copy of a database including all the relationships, forms, queries and modules while still within the original database. This has to be a relatively automated process (button click). Any suggestions? yeah; use ACCESS DATA PROJECTS and you can do this all through TSQL. -aaron Instead of Exporting, make: Get External Data --> Import... All the existing relationships will be imported with the tables. Click on the Options button on the Import dialog window to have more choices. help MS ACCESS\SAS, general database questions
Hi to all, I need some help deciding on the best database system for our specific application. OPTIONAL INFO: We currently have 2 separate projects that need to be updated from dos-based dBase. I'll only describe one of these but the other is comparable in size. The project currently has about 32 files. The 2 largest are about 30,000 records and 5 columns include data from the last 30 years. The other 30 files are created by year and are about 1000 records and 10 columns. There are only 2 or 3 people keying in data, never at the same time. We also have a sonic digitizer (measures distance between age rings on fish scales) from which data is fed into the dBase form. I think the data transfer program is written in C and the dBase form is written in Clipper. We currently have MS Access and SAS. My suggestion was to design the same type of user entry forms in MS Access and place the files on a shared drive on our network server (already in place and routinely backed up). If the amount of data or number of users increased we could consider going to a database server with Access as the "front end." Most of the analysis is performed in SAS which can readily import Access tables. I was met with some opposition: SAS/ACCESSS/SERVER QUESTIONS: There was a strong objection to using ODBC to get data into SAS (when discussing database servers). Does SAS Import wizard use ODBC? Are there inherent problems with ODBC? Is there any advantage to having data analyze...

Re: help SAS/MS ACCESS, general database questions
Without having enough time to analyze excatly, what are your needs: if there are no important reasons why the data must be keept in MS Access: why you don't keep it all in SAS? If you are analyzing in SAS, there is no real reason to have any other DB to hold the data. For users you have many possibilities to give them comfortable possibilities to enter data, in or outside SAS. In SAS, the most easy idea is to use SAS/FSP. But that is not necessary. You can use nearly any tool for data entry and bring the (standard formatted) data into SAS. To get a consultant for realizing a proper solution might be a good idea. It sometime is not easy trying to learn to program in SAS by developing a productive solution, because it might be not easy to get it in time with all the obstacles, there might be in your way. If you have time (and money) enough, you should take the chance to learn how to do some steps further in SAS programming together with a good consultant. ADO Connection Open fails with error -2147467259 when MS Access database under Source Safe
Immediately after generating the Access application from the Source Safe project I get: "-2147467259 Could not use ''; file already in use." If Access database closed and then reopened I get: "-2147467259 The database has been place in a state by user 'Admin' on machine ..... that prevents it from being opened or locked." This error will then persist - even past a machine reboot and compact and repair of both application db (without source safe removal) and 'server' db. If I remove the Access application from Source Safe the ADO connection opens fine. (Might have to close database and reopen it to get it working the first time after eliminating source safe.) I do not appear to be short on memory. Test1 fails under source safe while Test2 - which avoids use of the offending open command -works regardless of use of source safe. Any illumination on this would be appreciated. access MS-Access database in C# Windows Application
Hi, I am trying to access the MS Access database on my local machine in C# Windows Application in Visual Studio.NET. But it seems that it does not work. I use the Microsoft Application Blocks to access the database. I have tried 2 possible connection strings. ----------------------------------------- str_1 = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" + DBFilePath; str_2 = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + DBFilePath; //SqlHelper is the class in the Microsoft Application Blocks SqlHelper.ExecuteNonQuery( str_1, CommandType.Text, SQL_str); ----------------------------------- The error message I got is: "Unknown connection option in connection string: driver." for str_1 and " Unknown connection option in connection string: provider." for str_2 So I am wondering, where is the problem? Is it because my connection string for MS Access is specified wrongly? Or is it because I cannot use SqlHelper to access the MS Access database? ( I have used SqlHelper class to access the MS SQL server, and it works) Your help will be greatly appreciated. Hello all! I have such question to all of you. I have some tables linked from MS SQL Server 2000. Is time of processing query based on these linked tables from MS SQL Server 2000, faster or slower than the time of processing the same query based on tables, which are not linked but imported to MS Access? The most obvious thing it depends on is the size of the result set. In a client/server arrangement, you want to keep result sizes down, and do aggregation and filtering on the server. Next, how many people will be sharing the back-end data. Access slows down as soon as 2 people are sharing a JET back-end, but the server won't have this limitation. On the other hand, if the server is too slow, or you're trying to use MSDE with more users than it's optimized for, the server will be slow. There are m...

MS Access Script to import data from external mde database to mdb database

Problems with MOD-Function by accessing MS-Access Database via SQL in Delphi
Hello, the following problem: I use Delphi 6 to access a MS Access Database. In short, the Delphi Code looks like this: ADOConnection1.Open; ADOQuery1.Close; ADOQuery1.SQL.Text :=3D 'SELECT * FROM database1 WHERE value1=3D1 AND value2=3D ' + inttostr(array[3]); ADOQuery1.Open; Label5.Caption:=3DADOQuery1.Fiel=ADdByName('value4').AsString; Now I only want to select these rows, where the Integer value3 ends on 1=2E So I need the Modulo-Function. I found in the Internet these two functions: MOD(x,y) und x % y But I get an error if I want to use one. For example, If I change ADOQuery1.SQL.Text :=3D 'SELECT * FROM database1 WHERE value1=3D1 AND value2=3D ' + inttostr(array[3])+' AND MOD(value3,10) =3D 1; Delphi shows me a Syntax Error in this statement. Thx for help! Sorry, there is a ' missing in the code. But it has nothin to do with the problem: The first code runs perfectly, but If I insert AND MOD(20,10) = 0 there is the syntax error again. Access database help
Hi, I'm pretty new too Access 2000 and I have a database that I with the details of peoples names, i.e. surname, forename, ref number. I have another table with surname, forename, etc plus some other details, including videos. For arguments sake, the first person is a parent, the second is the child, and the videos belong to the child. The problem that I am having is that on the form I can manage to get the details of the parent on it with a subform of the child details but when I add the details of the child via the subform and click add record, the details aren't saved. I'm sure that I am missing something really obvious here. There are also a few other things that I would like to be able to do to the form. I would like to be able to link each child to a video/s and then record the movement of that video to various parties as well as give the video a unique reference number. So the child may have 4 videos all the same, but each video has a number that refers to the autonumber generated for the parent as well as its own unique number, i.e. 37 2 (being video 2 of 3, and parent 37). As well as all this I would ideally like to be able to add videos at a later date, record their movement during the course of them being tracked and provide a link to a standardised Word document, ideally self filling (i.e. with Parents details, child details and amount of videos received relating to the details on the screen).
