Linux needs to think afresh if it needs to be accepted by general public. My Woes started the day i thought i will install SUSE linux on my
Workstation and Laptop. My workstation is the new and laptop is 5 years
On the laptop the installation was smooth. i installed all the drivers
and devices properly i was able to run my Dlink wireless adapter and i
was escatic. the trouble started when i changed my Cd Drive and
replaced it with the DVDROM/CDRW drive. first the system would not
install the drive and finally i got it insalled after going to all the
forums and googling for stuff. The next problem was running a DVD movie
on the laptop. apparently linux does no...
Who thinks we need/don't need more than 8 bits per channel? I recently ran into the 8 bit wall, and surprisingly, it wasn't one of
the usually cited reasons. I was using the GIMP to do some faux
charcoal sketches and watercolor paintings. While doing this, I noticed
that my gradients for each color lokked a little choppy. I separated
out one section of the image that had only a black and white gradient,
converted to grayscale, and looked at the levels, but I didn't see any
of the big gaps I was expecting. Instead, the histogram looked
perfectly smooth and well-formed. It turns out that 256 levels of gray
just isn't enough for what I want to...
Need advise as to what is needed, software packages wise, to get start programing in Java I'm new to Java, but not new to programming -
been at it for 33+ years :-)
I need advise as to the software packages I need to get started. I
have nothing yet and would like to know what compilers, IDEs, etc.
everyone prefers and the pros and cons of them.
I'm running Windows 98 but could create a system with Lynux if some of
the preferred products are Lynux products
I want to be able to create Java code for use with web pages and to
create cross platform offline applications for WIndows and MAC systems

IS RIP NEEDED I'm trying to figure out if the rip protocol is needed in a Router
Private Line configuration. At one point in time, there were netware
servers running at each end of this Private Line. These netware
servers have since been removed and now it's only an IP network. At
one end of the Private line is a Cisco 2600 Router. At the other, a
Cisco 1700. In the configuration of each router, there is are the
router eigrp 1
redistribute eigrp 1
I guess my question is, do I still need to use RIP as a routing...

Help Needed Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me to solve 220.127.116.11 with a subnet mask of 7
> Hi Guys,
> Can anyone help me to solve 18.104.22.168 with a subnet mask of 7
22.214.171.124 would be class B in a classful environment with a network
mask of 16 bits. An additional 7 bit subnet mask puts the total mask at
23 (i.e.: 255.255.254).
Subnet ID would be: 126.96.36.199
Host address range: 188.8.131.52 through 184.108.40.206
Subnet Broadcast address would be: 220.127.116.11
Testers needed I have put together a paper describing how to extend production VO apps with
C# code which I intend to make public, but before I do that I need somebody
to read it and see if the descriptions are clear enough. You need to know VO
and be familiar with C#, and you also need to have either VS 2008 or C#
Express 2008 to test the samples, which come from my VODC presentations.
If anybody is willing to do this, please email me. (Remove the online bit
from my email address.) Also if anybody would like a copy of the paper for
your website, please email me and I'll be happy to send a...
Grammar needed Hi there.
I've been trying to obtain a grammar that meets two properties:
(i) It represents an LR(k) language
(ii) The grammar it self isn't LR(k) for any k, for there is at least
one conflict. One or more of these conflicts does not indicate
ambiguity in the grammar, but can't be solved with any k.
Condition (i) is relatively easy to achieve. However, I can't put (ii) to
work with (i).

The need for speed Hi,
some time ago I wrote a parser to decode a binary file. The binary
file contained a number of records and only some of the fields need to
be extracted and only some fields need to be transformed. The
performance was OK where I could decode a file, do some basic
filtering, do a couple of transformations, and generate an output file
@ 8million records per hour.
The last week I've been looking at ways of improving on this time. My
target is 20 million records per hour for the format that I'm working
with and using my laptop with a Intel Centrino 1.2Mhz with 1GB of RAM.

need help I have PSP 7 I would like to know how to take a picture of a
window (with window panes in it) and have to other picture (a scenic) so
that you are looking out the window at the scenic picture. I do have the
book that came with the program, somewhere in the ruble but can't seem to
find it and don't know if that would be in the book anyway. If it can't be
done in PSP 7 is there a program that can as I have quite a few graphic
programs. So any help would be appreciated.

Need some pointers I am not asking anyone to write my program for me. I want to get that out
upfront. I just desperately need some pointers.
C++ is the first language I have ever taken a class in. Up until now I have
grasped things rather easily. This time I haven't. Whether it is the concept
itself or just trouble concentrating (had a tooth cut out, reacted to the
numbing medication, yada yada..been knocked on my butt by medication) I
don't know. This is what I was assigned: "Read in a string of maximum 11
characters (including the \0 at the end) and whatever is typed in, reverse

I Need Utilities to... I have way to much sludge in my "Services" menu and so don't even use
them. But I'd like to. First in the process is to thin it down by
80%. How to do this? Is this what Alfred does? Is it worth the
effort for this one feature? I can't really figure out what the heck
Alfred is anyway...
Also, is there a utility/operation that will allow me to select
multiple files and jam a word or words into their "Spotlight Comments"
field. I assume this field is part of the meta-data that Spotlight
uses in it's searches.
Thank you and have a nice day.
