### Matlab Confidence Intervals

```I have non-normal data. How do I go about calculating the 60% confidence interval about the mean? I assume just summing up the area under the curve and outputing the values at 0.2 and 0.8 would be around the median, but what about the mean?
```I should add that it's really a non-normal probability distribution and not data.

Proc probit and confidence intervals
Dear SAS-ers, I am estimating the following probit model using Proc probit: proc probit data=x3; class y; model y = x1-x4; run; The model runs fine. I would like to know if you can tell me how to change the above code so that I can confidence intervals and Pr > ChiSq reported at 99% confidence interval? The above code gives me confidence intervals and Pr > ChiSq at 95% confidence interval. Thanks, -Ram You can specify the alpha= on model statement to get the desired significant level. HTH data t1; do i = 1 to 50; x=rannor(123); y=(1+2*x+rannor(123))<0; output...

MLE of std dev for normal PDF skewed wrt confidence intervals
I am using the code below to get familiar with Maximum Likelihood Estimation. I am fitting to a normal distribution. Following the MLE estimate, comparison is made with (i) mean() & std(); (ii) normfit(); and (iii) MLE estimate of the error of the estimates. I'd like to get the feedback of more experienced MLE users. For parameter 2 (sigma, or standard deviation), the estimate is 0.4684, with 95% confidence intervals at 0.3311 and 1.0192. The estimate is much closer to the lower end of the confidence interval. I understand that that PDF for the estimate of sigma may be h...

Can a Matlab Automation Server "push" results back to a Matlab Client?
Say I have one Matlab Automation Server that services a Matlab client. How can I make the Automation Server tell the client, "Yo come and grab your results!" when a job is done? Can the Automation Server detect the client(s) in the first place? I can make the client poll the Automation Server workspace. But is there a more elegant way? Many thanks in advance. The feval method for the Matlab Automation Server forces the Matlab client that issued the command to wait until the server has finished processing the request. But I'm looking at asynchronous comm...

Matlab 2007A
I am using the student version of Matlab the 2007a version. I would like to know is it possible to interface the National Instruments USB 6251 with my version of Matlab. I am aware i will have to purchase the Data Aquistion Tool suite but i would like to know is it possible and what are the steps i must take so as matlab can read a particular channel input from the device. Hi Alan The National Instruments USB-6251has been supported since Data Acquisition Toolbox 2.9 which was released with R2006b so you're all set vis a vis R2007a. Matlab Integration
I have a function called CalculateE, which determines the electric field given x and y. In another script, I want to integrate this function from x = a to x = b and at a given y. In this script currently I call ETotal = quad(@CalculateE, a, b) to perform the integration in the x-direction. Is there a way using this command that I can pass the (constant) value of y into the function I am integrating? Matlab Mobile and graphs
Is there a way to show graphs plotted on my desktop on my tablet? Currently the only way to get graphs on my tablet is by starting the plot command on the tablet itself. I would be useful if one could plot directly to the screen of the tablet and even manipulate graphs from the tablet so they get updated on the desktop. IIRC, it implies changes to the Linux kernel to provide single-system-image in the sense of common-PID space (when you ps -ax you get unique PIDs from all over the cluster?) and it also provides for transparent process migration? Don't know. I'm not sure, but if you can ru...

Matlab and graphical outputs
Yet again, a student just came to me asking for advice about generating output files for Matlab graphics, as she was having problems. I gave the usual schtick about print -deps -r150 ..., and as usual pointed out that I've had more trouble generating dependable WYSIWYG output files from Matlab than from any other application I've ever used. Despite fine books by Marchand, Hanselman, and such, as well as nearly a decade of participation here, I've never been pointed to a procedure that ALWAYS works. There will always be those instances of fuzzy text, mysterious lines that do...

Java versions in Matlab
Hi all, I am collating information about the different Java versions pre-bundled with Matlab on different platforms and Matlab releases. For example, I know about the following Matlab releases on Windows: - Release 12 (6.0) – Java 1.1.8 - Release 12.1 (6.1) – Java 1.3.0 - Release 13 (6.5) – Java 1.3.1 - Release 14 (7.0) – Java 1.4.2 - Release 14 SP 2 (7.0.4) – Java 1.5.0 - R2007b (7.5) – Java 1.6.0 - R2010a (7.10) – Java 1.6.0_12-b04 I would appreciate your help to provide similar information about non-Wind...

Matlab is very slow starting
Hi! I have Matlab R2007a on my computer and since last week I've had problems with it: It takes to much time to start. When Matlab is opening it remains on initializing state for about a half an hour or even more and after that it goes in Ready state. I tried to reinstall Matlab but it's the same. How can I solve this problem? Thank you! I have had a similar problem but not to the same extent, starting just last week. Matlab starts slow (2-3 minutes) and sometimes the GUI just kind of delays for a while when I am editing. I am running R2007b on a very fast PC and loads of memo...

Chess diagrams in matlab?
Hi all. I need to make a few simple chess diagrams, with a few squares from a chessboard with some pieces. I could use the LaTeX chess package, but that would require some cumbersome conversions of figure formats and sizes in order to get the intended powerpoint slides. I find the formatting details are far easier to control with matlab. Does anyone know if a chess drawing tool for matlab exists?
