SWITCH expression must be a scalar or string constant

Hi, everyone. I came across a strange question while I tried to use fzero. For example, if I type  X = fzero(@tan,2), the Matlab window will show up the following message:

??? SWITCH expression must be a scalar or string constant.

Error in ==> fzero at 146
switch printtype

Besides, my Matlab version is Matlab R2009b.

Thanks for your attention. Any help will be appreciated.
