Hi Ron,

Having experimented with Ultraedit, VI, Emacs, Zeus, nedit, kedit
and other ISPF like editors, I feel Ultraedit is by far the best.

1. The integration between windows client and say unix server is
excellent for batch submissions
2. For the beginner is eliminates the issue of 'dirty interactive
environments' and makes a clean batch submissions this is both the
strength and weakness of Ultaedit.
3. The file compare is without competition.
4. It supports tcpip and ssh.
5.. However for advanced users who can write SAS scripts and know how
to use the command line, not the command bar in EE, disolay manager
blows away Ultraedit.
6. IT shops prefer users use Ultraedit.

And some people may use a combination- I tend to copy programs from Ultra Edit into the SAS display manager because then I get the colors I'm used to on the PC and all the editing tools, then copy the finished program back to Ultra Edit to transfer back to UNIX to run a UNIX job.

+1 for using UltraEdit. I just upgraded a pair of licenses over the weekend
for both Windows and Linux. The Linux version works remarkably well but I do
have one complaint. Scrolling through a large SAS program file tends to be
slow. This is especially true when I'm using syntax highlighting with the
SAS Wordfile.

Mary
Didn't you realize that you can both get colored syntax and run sas jobs on
unix by using emacs + ess?
