Displaying record number against number of record displayed in a found set
when viewing a record from a found set I want to be able to display the the
record number being viewed against the number of records in the found set.
For example " record 2 of 10 found", "record 55 of 72 found". Filemaker
already does this in the left hand menu, however I would like to have this
displayed in the layout itself.

Version Numbers I have been following the newsgroup for some time now and am waiting for the
HP50 to arrive in OZ. I am a bit confused though with the ROM version
numbering. HP say v92 other people say 2.09. How do I know which is which
and what the differences are?

Number of lights? We're covering lighting in my computer graphics course (for games
I told the students that we can have up to eight (8) lights. The
students complained that this number seems insufficient, particularly in
view of my assertion that the 3D graphics parts any of their fancy first
person shooters could have been developed using the OpenGL API.
They mentioned one game (was it Half-Life?) in which each players can
have a torch --- and up to 64 players.
I surmised that anything in 3D graphics that DirectX could do, OpenGL
could do equally.
I promised the students that I wou...
Number format How do I change the format of numbers. For example : from '9.5600' to
'9.56E+00'. I need to write the numbers in this format into a text
file. I know there is 'FORMAT' function in IDL. I tried using it right
after the printf statement. But it is not converting it to the format

Re: Playing with numbers The question is to solve with Mathematica the set of equations
(1) H - F = I
(2) F x G = C
(3) E / B = F
(4) A + B = H
(5) C - D = A
where every variable from A to I stands for a number from 1 to 9 and each
number appears only once.
Here is a solution where Mathematica does the computations that we otherwise
had to do by hand.
Since the symbols represent different integers between 1 and 9, we conclude
from the equations i+f=h, a+b=h that h has to be at least 5. From the
equations c=f*g, e=f*b we conclude that f is between 2 and 4, that g is at
least 2, that e is at least 2, th...
DateDiff not giving me a number!! Hi All
I know I'm probably doing something stupid, but I'm really stuck on this
Basically I need to create 2 'caclulating' fields in my Access SQL query
(along with the rest of the query fields), but I'm not getting anywhere.
My query is as follows:
SELECT g.GAMEID, g.GAMETITLE, rl.STOCKID, rl.RETURNDATE,
DateDiff("d",rl.RETURNDATE,r.RENTALDATE) AS DaysRent, (DaysRent *
g.RENTALPRICE) AS Charge
FROM ((GAMES AS g INNER JOIN PRODUCTTRACKING AS pt ON g.GAMEID = pt.GAMEID)
INNER JOIN RENTALLINES AS rl ON pt.STOCKID = rl.STOCKID) INNER JOIN RENTA...
Dial a Telephone number Hi
Apologies for cross posting but couldn't get an answer on the other site,
maybe cos it was mainly non English.
So, I realise this may be a daft question but I'll ask anyway. Is it
possible to build a MS Access database and get it to dial a telephone number
by clicking on field or toggle button in a Database Form?
Thanks for answers, ideas and thoughts
I'm fairly sure all you'd have to do is code up an OnClick event handler
(using VBA) for the telephone number field which would programmatically
interface with your modem to initiate the call. N...
system serial number I have remote systems that I am monitoring and want to know if I can obtain
the serial number while the system is running - they systems are a mix of
v440/v480/v880s. the sa out there tends to move hostnames around without
informing me of the changes.
Are there any commands that I can run to obtain this info? I know that
showplat on the higher end boxes is there but cannot locate this on these

You would have to write a new object class and write new versions of
fft and so on. Which seems to me rather a waste of time when you could
instead use the complex numbers already built in to matlab.
rotating labels in Numbers I've volunteered for maintain the work hours for a boat. It's a simple
spreadsheet. It's currently being done in Excel, the only issue that I have
with using Numbers instead of Excel is the column headers can't be rotated.
I don't see any way to do that. Is it practical?

How are job numbers assigned? How does the OS assign job numbers?
What are the controlling factors for the reuse of job numbers?
I have not been able to find a good discussion on this topic in the IBM
The best I can find is the following from the Work Management manual:
"The job number is a unique number assigned by the system so you can
jobs, even if more than one has the same job name and user name. The job
number is always 6 numeric digits."
If anyone could provide additional information, or point me to a better
document, it would be greatly appreciated.

page numbers in the margin? Hi! all,
Today I found a book which has page numbers in the middle of left and
right margins. I feel it is cool even though I am not qualified to
judge its typographic merits. So my question is, how to do it in

how to find a port number Does anyone know if it is possible to find a port number of a switch
from a IP or MAC address? If that makes sense?

1. On router that owns the subnet: show arp | include a.b.c.d
2. Then take the resulting mac from the above command, put in format
3. Go to core switch: show cam aa-bb-cc-dd-ee-ff
4. Should tell you the port it is on, including if it is off a
trunk. If it is off a trunk, d...
Number of compiler passes I was wondering, with the computers of today, with as much memory as they
have, is there still a reason to limit the amount of passes a compiler
makes? Sure, with each additional pass there will be some overhead, but
other than that, is there a disadvantage I'm missing?
In particular, I'm working on a source-to-source compiler at the moment.

Page Numbers in Floats Dear all,
Is there a way to figure out the page number of a float (figure/
table)? Obviously \thepage won't work because the float may be moved
to a different page.
I can think of one way to do this with a label for the float (this
could be automatically generated) and \pageref, but that won't work
Any suggestions welcome.

It runs but if there is any problem in script1, it aborts the whole
I want it to log the problem in a file say log1 and go to the next

Expanding ranges or numbers Hi,
What would be the best way of expanding a range of numbers, say
"10-15" to include all the numbers in between?
For example, if I have this data: "1,3,10-15", how could I transform
that into: "1,3,10,11,12,13,14,15"?
Is there a simple way of doing this?
