I was going to suggest that you use Perl. (Oh. Everyone already knew I
was
going to say that.) Perl now runs on OpenVMS, and you could probably
use a
Perl one-liner in a SYSTEM() command to change the file attribute.

But I just saw Jack's suggestion, and that seems better. Go with Jack's
idea
if you can, and fall back on the Perl if needed.

To SAS-Lers (specifically OpenVMS Users), Is there a system option for OpenVMS SAS version 8 where a sas program can create an output file with a file attribute of "Stream_LF" so that these external files can be served through an Apache WebServer properly? Currently, what happens is when we create a CSV file, the Apache Webserver wants to load the contents of this CSV file into a single cell for Excel. That is, all OBS are treated as a SINGLE record and all the contents is loaded into a single cell within Excel. To fix this problem, we are able to use an "Convert/FDL" th...

We don't have SAS/Intrnet on OpenVMS, so that problem didn't come up here, but I had a similar problem with creating files I wanted to ZIP later - a text file in the standard OpenVMS format can't be ZIPped, transferred to Windows, UNZIPped, and read there (not easily, anyway). The file needed to be in stream format before it was ZIPped. My workaround was to create an empty stream-format file and append to it; SAS is smart enough to figure out that the appended data need to be in stream format also. -- JackHamilton@FirstHealth.com Manager, Technical Development Metrics Departm...

Hi Ace, The PGM is the editor window up through v6.12 but also still exists today. For the Enhanced Editor you can use: dm editor 'zoom' wedit ; Hope this is helpful. Re: running a sas file within a sas file
Like Joep wrote: that seems to be the right thing for the macro facility. With %include you are very static. With the macro facility that could be very dynamic. The simplest thing is: you could provide the statements you want to insert as parameter: %macro doit(stmt1=,stmt2=); ..... &stmt1 ..... &stmt2 ..... %mend; %doit(stmt1=%str(y=sqrt(y);), stmt2=%str(if y<2 then y=2;) ); with many other things you can do, e.g. conditional creating of statements, naming variables by parameters, create multiple statements with macro loops and much more. Re: Reading MS Word ".doc" files into SAS #8
Hi Jake This program creates a vbs document which converts all of the word documents named in the dataset "files" to text. Then it's a simple matter of inputting the text files and filtering out the lines that you want. Tested on win xp pro, sas 9.1.3: data files; length fn $20; input fn; cards; c:\temp\abc.doc c:\temp\yyy.doc ; run; data fn; length newfn $50; file "%sysfunc(pathname(work))\svtxt.vbs"; put 'set word = createobject("word.application")'; put 'word.visible = True'; do until (e1); set files end = e1; newfn = catt(fn, '...

extern "c" from c++ header files referenced in c files
Hi, I have a mixed c/c++ program, where there are a few .c files where I want to hook to .h files of .cpp files. For example, I have application.c which references an .h file for a ..cpp file (pingpong.h and pingpong.cpp) I've tried to declare c++ style features in my pingpong.h file but it seems that the pingpong.h file keeps on being read as a "C" file. in application.c #include "pingpong.h" in pingpong.h extern "C" { #include <iostream> using namespace std; typedef struct struct_app_pingping { int connectionId; etc.. .... } /*end of extern ...

Re: Use Windows Explorer "selected files" as input to SAS program.
Do you not get a 'submit to sas' menu item when you right click on one of the selected files? (I don't, but I know my sas install is a bit wonky). If you don't, I'd prescribe a script that sits in your 'send to' folder. You highlight your files, right-click, and then choose your script off the Send To menu. The script will be passed the file/pathnames of the ..sas files as arguments & you shell out to sas for each one. I've got a vbscript you could probably adapt to this pretty easily if you're interested. One down side to that approach is you may n...

Re: Use Windows Explorer "selected files" as input to SAS program. #10
Thanks Alan! PowerShell may help me script some share permissions that I couldn't with XP's batch commands. _datanull_, have you considered just dragging and dropping more than one file into the SAS log window? Not sure of the control there either - although it looks as if SAS takes the file you have the mouse pointer on when you drag first followed by the other files top to bottom regardless of the order in which you highlight. Just thinking of saving the work of writing the script... Rob Rob Rohrbough Omaha, NE, USA > -----Original Message----- > From: Alan Churchill ...
