Slightly OT Java vs. C# crosspost from Perl

Hi SAS-Lers,

Here is the link

http://tiny.cc/IimQB

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.perl.misc/browse_thread/thread/7cb5445c12f01246?hl=en#

But I'm wondering (inquiring minds want to know) -- What's the
feeling
in the SAS community with respect to the competition of Java and C#?
Should Java prevail over C#? Or should C# dominate Java? Or does the
community really care one way or another? Which is better for SAS,
and which is worse?

dice.com has 9,800 jobs posted with 'Java' as a key word, and 4,700
with 'C#' as a key word, for whatever that's worth.

I hope Java prevails.

Yeah, but it won't.

(BTW: combine C# with the other languages under .NET for a more
accurate comparison. Java only has 1 language in its pantheon
whereas .NET has a number of them including Java.)

Why is C# so great? They have the best language designer in the world
Anders Hejlsberg and the best features. Check out LINQ, for example.

Java is a language built by a hardware company whereas C# was built by
a software company that focuses on languages first and foremost.
Distinct advantage.
