SPSS 16.0.2 failed to start up! [err: Attempt to connect to a remote server failed inet:Local Computer:0]

Hi  all,

I used to get SPSS 16.0 working on my PC, but unfortunately after a
blue screen i had to reinstall Windows XP.
I installed SPSS 16.0 and apply both patches SPSS1601WindowsPatch.exe,
SPSSWindows16.0.2Patch.exe.

I try to launch SPSS 16 I keep having the following error
message: (I hoped SPSS 16.0.2 patch fix this!)
"Attempt to connect to a remote server failed inet:Local Computer:0."

The only difference that I can see from my previous installation is
that I updated my Windows XP to SP3...

I am not an expert in SPSS than any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thxxxx

Hi, shouldn't > (= 0/0 0/0) => NIL or > (= 0/0 0/0) => T instead of giving out division by zero? 0/0 is different from 1/0, which is the non-existent number n such that 1 x n = 0. The actual result of that expression depends of what you think 0/0 is. I personally feel that 0/0 is any number n such that 0 x n = 0, that is all numbers. hal9@cyberspace.org (Hal Niner) writes: > Hi, > > shouldn't > > > (= 0/0 0/0) => NIL > > or > > > (= 0/0 0/0) => T > > instead of giving out division by zero? 0/0 is different fro...

recvfrom(0.0.0.0) fd=51: Connection refused #2
Well, I'm about to give up. My logs are getting flooded with "Connection refused" messages and I can't find why, much less how to stop them. This is a rather oldish RH Linux box with two network cards. One is connected to the bad world outside via an ADSL router, the other to the internal network (192.168.x.x). It gets its time from stratum 2 servers and provides time to the internal network. I've been running ntp on that box since 2001. In June 2005, I upgraded to ntp 4.2.0. Life was beautiful for more than a year until, last week, I suddenly started getting "Connection refused" messages in syslog. > Sep 3 04:06:32 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(193.190.230.65) fd=9: Connection refused > Sep 3 04:06:32 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(193.190.230.65) fd=9: Connection refused > Sep 3 04:07:36 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(193.190.230.65) fd=9: Connection refused > Sep 3 04:07:36 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(193.190.230.65) fd=9: Connection refused > Sep 3 04:08:40 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(192.168.1.3) fd=9: Connection refused > Sep 3 04:08:40 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(192.168.1.3) fd=9: Connection refused > Sep 3 04:09:44 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(192.168.1.3) fd=9: Connection refused > Sep 3 04:09:44 gida ntpd[4796]: recvfrom(192.168.1.3) fd=9: Connection refused I've been getting "Connection refused" before (which is why I upped to 4.2.0 because that shows the failing IP).
