extASM 2.00 released

I'm delighted to announce the immediate availability of the latest version of the extASM ARM assembler. This is a major upgrade of the previous version, version 1.00, released in 1995. The previous version supported ARM2/3/6 (i.e. up to ARMv3). This version supports all the instructions of the last version of the ARM architecture, ARMv7, which is used by ARM Cortex A8 and A9 (as used by Beagleboard and Touch Book, among others), excluding the Thumb instructions. Major additions include the Advanced SIMD and VFP instructions. extASM is released as GPL, and includes full source

R-Comp / RCI at SW show (UniPrint 4, RISCubes, RISCBooks, Mpro)

With the SW show just a few days hence, we thought we'd drop a line and let people know what to expect. We'd also urge anyone in the area to get to the show, because all shows need visitors! Latest RISCube and RISCBook advances -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2010 has already seen a number of advancements on planet RISCube! At the show, you'll be able to see a RISCube driving multiple screens digitally for best picture quality, a "first" on RISC OS, as far as we're aware. ieba (Independent Eight Bit Association)

Some readers here may remember a Group I set up with others to provide and exchange information between users of 8-bit computers. Well, one of the founders has passed away (died, that is) and Gordon Woolliscroft and I thought that as the whole 8bit scene has dwindled we ought to wind the thing up and put the money to good use, so that's what we've just done. There was about 600 English pounds in the account (my, that interest did mount up) so we have decided to split it 50/50 between a kidney research charity and Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. We hope that meets

Re: Easier software purchase from APDL

More and more people are now using RISC OS under emulation. Modern computers often don't have a floppy drive and may not have a CD ROM drive which can be accessed properly from within emulated RISC OS. This can make the installation of software supplied on physical media difficult. We have therefore now made many titles in the APDL, iSV Products and 4th Dimension ranges available by download. This makes it much more convenient for users who don't have traditional RISC OS computers. It is also cheaper for purchasers who are prepared to forgo physical media and printed manuals, espe

Boost your ADSL speed with an iPlate?

An iPlate may boost an ADSL's download and/or upload speed significantly, but not always, so we are offering an iPlate trial! On a statistically insignificant sample size of three locations we found between 0% & 71% speed increase in download speed and between 0% & 55% speed increase in upload speed, though we have also heard reports of speed reductions! Hire an iPlate for a month for 4GBP (plus 7GBP deposit) and see if it is worth it for you. If not, return it and we will refund your deposit, or keep it and have nothing further to pay! An iPlate can only be fitted to a NTE5 Mas

Bugfixed !RunImage for FFmpeg 1.04

FFmpeg is a versatile, open-source, multi-platform video and audio converter. A rather embarrassing bug has existed in !FFmpeg 1.04 since its release on 22 December 2009. This bug meant that the Quality settings in the Convert dialogue were mostly ignored. The full FFmpeg archive is a very large download (for a RISC OS application) so I have released a tiny 6KB patch that restores operation of the Quality settings. I recommend that all FFmpeg users download this patch via <http://www.users.on.net/~belles/software/ffmpeg/>. Note that if you have already downloaded FFmpeg 1.04, th

New mailing list for RISC OS users in the Bristol area

Newsgroups: comp.sys.acorn.announce Followup-To: comp.sys.acorn.misc From: "Trevor Johnson" Two RISC OS enthusiasts in Bristol are investigating scope for starting a new Bristol RISC OS user group. The previous group closed down in 2006 but the shared source initiative of RISC OS Open Ltd may be generating a need once more. Vince Hudd and Trevor Johnson have agreed to try to gauge interest, with a view to developing longer term plans to serve the wider Bristol area. The first stage is the setting up of a mailing list for RISC OS users in Bristol and the surrounding area. This

!MultiTask

Utility !MultiTask now updated and available for download from http://www.svrsig.org/software/MultiTask.htm - this application simply sits on the desktop. When developing BASIC programmes, simply drop them onto its icon bar icon and they are loaded into BASIC. At the same time the CSD is set to the directory the programme came from allowing simple 'SAVE' 'OPENOUT' etc. commands to operate correctly. A little 'quick and dirty' but I have found it very useful. It also allows simple Draw files to be analysed and will generate a BASIC programme to regenerate the draw objects in the
