Problems posting to acorn.hardware

Hi,

I've posted a few things to acorn.hardware in the last few days but I
was surprised to get no follow ups from the normal helpful people who
contribute regularly.

Checking on google.groups it doesn't look as if any of my posts have
got through - I have a local copy whicy presumably gets added by
MessengerPro.

Is there any problem posting to this group at the moment?

Three items from you since Jan 2nd. (One of those was a repeat of an
earlier query about KVM kit)
Those items appeared OK.

Maybe the people who could answer aren't around at the moment, winter sun
holiday perhaps?
Gone off to work in one of the countries around the Indian Ocean.
Whatever.

Accessing csah through Google, I only see Andy's posts as quoted within
others' replies, not his own posting. This is not uncommon (i.e. not
just Andy's posts are missing), and I have always put it down to
Google's inadequacies rather than any problem with csah itself.

The google news archives can take from a few minutes to over a day to store
postings, normally in my experience 3-4 hours:-(

Agreed, though the beta version now seems much quicker than the old
(which at least told you it could take "up to nine hours"). However,
the missing posts remained missing for hours/days, so I don't think it
was (just) a matter of the response being processed quicker than the
OP.

Anyone else finding it necessary to use groups-beta because the
standard Google News can never find the post to which you're replying
when you try to post? (yes, that would be the post you just been
reading when you hit the "reply to this post" button!).

acorn electron problems
Hello I was given an acorn electron a while back and plugged it in for the first time this weekend. At first it worked okay - beeped, little light came on and I saw the start up screen. Hurrah! To test it out I entered a simple program to print numbers on the screen forever. Unfortunately, it didn't get far before crashing (about 4000 the first time, about 1000 the second time - perhaps because it took me longer to type it in the second time). When it crashed, it didn't respond to break or anything else. I believe the crash was related to how long it was switched on and not any moveme...

Misc Acorn bits F/A
I've got a few misc Acorn bits for auction, including a Cumana CD Rom drive (SCSI) a concept keyboard and a couple of nexus podules. More info and links up at http://www.vigay.com/forsale/ Worth keeping an occasional eye on, cos I'm trying to clear out the loft at the moment. Got a few other bits and bobs, but a lot isn't worth the cost of postage, so if anyone is in the Hampshire (Southsea) area and fancies picking up bits, I'll update the list above with some heavier items soon (got some old Solidisk BBC Bs with square case and external keyboards etc) and some old A5000'...

Virtual Acorn phone problems
I've been asked to post a message to tell anyone who has been trying to contact Virtual Acorn that their phone line has been misbehaving for several days and is now completely inoperative. This means not only no phone but no internet access so no email either. Obviously Virtual Acorn are doing their best (and BT their most indifferent) to get this sorted out as soon as possible and have asked me to extend their sincere apologies to anyone who has been trying to get in touch with them. agp440.sys bootleg problem... Please help or I'll x-post again
Hello, Sorry for the x post but I need help big time... I installed a new motherboard and cpu in my system as I fried the old ones. I did not do a clean install of Windows XP as my HP Pavilion system did not come with any recovery cd's so I hooked my existing hard drive up to the system and powered up. Anyway, it powers up ok but the first time I switched it on there was a blue error screen that flashed on for a second and then the system rebooted itself. Now when I power on I can get past the bios screen ok but before the windows logo appears I get the boot menu offering safe mode , safe mode with networking, normal mode etc. A message appears on this screen saying that the options appear as windows xp did not shut down correctly etc etc If I choose normal mode then a white progress bar at the bottom of the screen appears, it gets to the end of it and sits there.....for ever. If I choose safe mode then it shows it loading all the files from the hard drive and it gets to a file agp440.sys and it sits there...forever. So whatever this file is it is causing the system to hang, Various fixes I have seen include getting into Windows and disabling the agp440.sys service. But I cannot get into xp at all as my system did not come with boot cd's. I can boot to a win98 floppy ok but I cannot access drive c: as it is ntfs, I thought maybe I could rename agp440.sys to something else. Any ideas on how to get round this agp440.sys problem? I really don't want t...

Hardware Problem / Software Problem -- Strange Artifacts on Screen
