Expanding A600

Hi

I've just been given an Amiga 600 but nothing for it whatsoever - no disks
so it's largely useless.

I can get some workbench 2.1 disks easily enough but I have a couple of
questions:
1) I hate disks - much prefer networks (don't we all) - so can I hook this
up to my LAN using the PCMCIA card - and if I can - presume I'll need to
constantly boot from WB2.1?
2) If I can't - is it possible to hook up a hard disk to the A600?
3) Are both possible - I note only one PCMCIA slot? I'd ideally like to
boot from a hard drive and then have the main amiga filestore as some sort
of container on my network e.g. a hard diskfile the way UAE handles it.

Cheers

Yes, use the pcmcia (not 32bit) lan, before you run the wb2.1, then any
program for network (see aminet)

Yes, if you have kickstart 2.05 or plus, no if you have kickstart 2.04 or
minor, finally change your kickstart with kick3.1 is the last for classic
amiga.

on interior of your A600 you have a IDE 2,5inch connector for hardisk and
with little help for Cd-rom or other IDE components. Note maximum 2
components, maximum 55cm IDE cable, the ide is only ATA0 and not is
buffered.
But at the last you have only 1mb chip ram :-) expand it if is possible for
you (chip and fast ram).
Ciao, Michele

of course.
Look for available drivers on Aminet then find out a wi-fi or lan
pcmcia card compatible (..chipset..) and make it work

of course. A600 have an IDE controller inside.
Just open your A600, and plug an HD in. (you'll need a frame and cable..)
There is a easier way, you could but an Compact flash 2 Ide adapter and
use a compact flash memory as a real HD.
Cheap, fast and silent!

Ciao
