configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.

Hi guys.
I am trying to configure gcc. But getting the problem mentioned below.

-desktop:~$ /home/nitin/gcc-4.2.4/configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether ln works... yes
checking whether ln -s works... yes
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot create executables.

Although this problem has been posted by many users, I am yet to find
its solution.
What can be the way out ?
The gcc is already installed , but its for native machines only. I
have to install it as cross compiler for ARM.
Do I need to remove the already installed native gcc ?

Thanks.

You must also install gcc for a build machine.
With it you compile new version of gcc.

You can not use cross compiler to build runnable executable
on build machine (or may be you wont canadian cross
http://www.airs.com/ian/configure/configure_6.html ?).

Have a look at cross-compiled Linux From Scratch:

Since it says "cached", my guess is that you are building from sources that aren't "clean", that they have been used to build on another system. Don't do that. The best way to build is to build outside the source dirs, with different directories for each build-type and platform. You just call /path/to/tcl/unix/configure --with-options ... make alternatively you can try a 'make distclean&#...

Compile/Configure Apache 1.3.31 problem without error message
Hello out there! I am trying to compile the recent Apache HTTPD 1.3.31 on my small home server (Athlon 750 MHz, 512 MB RAM, 8 GB HDD). My problem is: Every simple ./configure (with none, more or less parameters) is broken down at the sanity check without any visible error message as you can see at most compile problems. I tried it with SuSE 9.1 and with Fedora Core 2, always the same result. Googling about it for 2 days, but I found nothing. Everyone with compile problems seems to have more or less a kind of error message here (like make not found, gcc error message). When I enter - just for fun - the compile command for dummy.c on my own, GCC works and ends, without any message. I hope somebody can help me because I think this problem cannot be too hard as the compiled Apache and other things at work on other machines so often. Here you see what I got on my last try (Fedora Core 2): root@zoolserver apache_1.3.31]# ./configure --prefix=/server/apache/1.3-branch Configuring for Apache, Version 1.3.31 + using installation path layout: Apache (config.layout) Creating Makefile Creating Configuration.apaci in src Creating Makefile in src + configured for Linux platform + setting C compiler to gcc + setting C pre-processor to gcc -E + using "tr [a-z] [A-Z]" to uppercase + checking for system header files + adding selected modules + using builtin Expat + checking sizeof various data types + doing sanity check on compiler and options ** A test compilation wit...

frustating error compiling openssh3.7p1--> checking for libwrap... configure: error: *** libwrap missing
Hi, I am not sure whether I am missing something here thats simple But I put an hour and half and couldnt get past this. I have already compiled and installed openssl with zlib. I am trying to compile openssh3.7p1 with tcp wrappers. I have compiled tcpd from Casper Dik's code. I copied libwrap.a and tcpd.h into /usr/lib and /usr/local/include respectively and tried to do the configure with ../configure --prefix=/usr/local/openssh-3.7p1 --sysconfdir=/etc/openssh-3.7p1 --with-tcp-wrappers type libwrap.a libwrap.a is /usr/lib/libwrap.a type libwrap libwrap is /usr/lib/libwrap (I copied libwrap.a to libwrap as the error says its looking for libwrap and not libwrap.a) I dont understand why it cant use any one from /usr/lib. Again I tried passing on the whole path after making a copy of libwrap into /usr/local/lib ../configure --prefix=/usr/local/openssh-3.7p1 --sysconfdir=/etc/openssh-3.7p1 --with-tcp-wrappers=/usr/local/lib But that doesnt get me any where as well. I had all these directories in my path. I even tried compiling it with having /tmp/tcpd/tcp_wrappers_7.6-ipv6(directory where I had all my wrapper stuff in) in my path. One more Q--> Is any one starting SSHD out of inetd.conf? How does that work for you? If that doesnt work well or has some other issues I can forget about this error and compile with out tcp wrappers option. Any pointers/suggestions are truely appreciated. Thanks a lot! Newbie: Forms Installation/Configuration problem
Hi, I can successfully build a test form - it links to the database fine, so I can create a single base table default form under scott/tiger. It compiles succesfully. However, when I try to run I get: TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error I have seen references to this error but with many causes, so I'm not sure which configuration step I'm missing. Perhaps if I describe what I did, the ommision may be obvious. I'm working on a single stand-alone Windows XP pro machine running the latest versions 10g of the database and developer. I installed the enterprise database successfully to c:\oracle with orahome = c:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1, orahnam = OraDb10g_home1. Sqlplus etc work fine. I install developer to another directory c:\oracle\OraDS10g_home1 and orahome equals this with orahnam = OraDS10g_home1. I installed jinit.exe. I then start OC4J instance from the windows start menu under <Forms Developer> It states it is initialized. I have done no other configuration at all. I can build and compile the form as I described above using <Forms Builder> but when I try and run it I get the 12560 error. When I start Oracle Net Manager and look at: <Listener><Other Services> I see Program name = extprog,SID=PLSExtProc, Oracle Home Directory = c:\oracle\OraDS10g_home1 <Listener><Listening Locations> Host = localhost, Port=1521.
