All iterations of "Commodore" except the original and the c64dtv, have
been shit cheap rip offs of existing technology, most likely sourced
from asia.
This will now change...
Introducing the prototype of, the SIDVICious6510 -
http://174.120.106.254/~inspired/SIDVICious6510.jpg
It would run a Cortext A8 ARM processor (now around 720Mhz, a newer
model than the Pandora), DSP, 256Mb mobile DDr, 512Mb Flash disk, two
3.5" 480x640 touchscreens, graphics controller supporting STN and TFT
panels with 1400x1050 max resolution, all modern video codecs, PowerVR
SGX GPU for 2D/3D graphics acceleration with OpenGL-ES and OpenVG
support, WiFi, Bluetooth, two microSD slots, touchscreen keypad and
game controls, integrated speaker and mic, high speed powered USB
ports, Lithium-ion battery (approx 10 hours), very low standby and
active power consumption...
We don't have permission from any officially licensed Commodore brand
as yet, and I've yet to hear from Jeri Ellsworth whom I hope will come
on board as lead engineer.
Feedback? :D
Cheers,
Damian

Oh I take my comment back about Commodore USA, the new C64 looks
amazing! I've contacted them about the SV6510, lets see if they'd like
to branch into a handheld platform :)

Well worth it, the SV6510 would go on sale from just under $500 to
just over $600, these are enthusiast devices with specialist purposes,
you can't expect them to be as cheap as a mass marketed in the
millions c64 from the 80's.

Sorry, but a Linux PC shoved into a retro looking case just isn`t worth that
much.

I'd like to have a phone with Commodore Basic.
If you switch it on you can use it in less then 2 seconds. And you can
run Commodore Basic programs. :)

I already have quite a few ideas for an enhanced c=3Dbasic ;) Also, I'm
retooling the SEUCK as a game dev SDK, it will have vertical and
horizontal levels, multiload, sinus generator, full featured intro
creator with advanced gfx mode pictures for intro art, a physics
engine, and new level modes like plasma, fire, starfield and parallax
stars! :D
Welcome to the future \o/

The Pandora is a Linux based handheld, is that not worth it's cost? Re-
evaluate your principles.

Who knows, it`s not like you can actually buy one. The Pandora isn`t just an
existing board shoved in a plastic box designed to look like a specific
retro computer that doesn`t even ship with the ability to emulate what it
looks like!
Seems laughable at that price.

I'm proposing a real solid and well thought out evolution of the c64
into a multimedia handheld, and all you can do is act like a complete
fool without a comment on it. Same old Clocky.

I think I going to use one of my dead C64 cases and stick some
http://www.raspberrypi.org/ in it. $25 for the computer, and a free C64
case, the only thing I have to do is get the keyboard to work with USB,
but I have a few ideas how to do that....

And FYI, anyone in their right mind can build their very own
multimedia handheld like the Pandora, just like anyone can whack h/w
in a case and stick Linux on it. What's the difference?
Listen to the interview with the Commodore USA Chief Technology
Officer on their website, you'll find that they have the same dreams
as the rest of the Commodore enthusiasts of the world. Except yourself
perhaps.

See that's how it's done. Buy Commodore USA's gadget, or just simply
DIY, your DIY device will still run the upcoming Commodore O/S.
Although I assume some of us don't have the mental capacity to build
our own technology, eh Clocky?

Oh and FYI for the doubters of the community, I already have sourced
the guts of the sv6510, started work on the operating system,
discovered a javascript based applesoft BASIC interpreter that I will
expand upon, as well as a ML monitor/assembler/compiler. The project
will be fully developed within six months, with or without the support
of well anyone at all. I'm doing this for the honour of the commodore
brand and the memory of the c64, just like Commodore USA (if you
listen to their interview).
Anyone who wants to be a doubter should doubt just why they are
doubting something so potentially awesome that could revive the c64
name. What, just because I'm not a hot lesbian? :P

Android has at least three C64 emulators. At least two of those, Frodo and Vice, will let you type and run basic programs. Plus with some effort you'd probably be able to save your programs to d64 diskfile.
We can only dream of fully native C64 mobile phones. ;)

I'll say triple-"Amen!" to that!!! :)

This will be my last post here, if you want to continue the
conversation, head over to the official commodore forums I linked to
earlier.
The selling point is that it is not only an enthusiast device with
unlimited possibilites (for instance the robotic chassis option), it
is a handheld game device killer, it is an iphone killer, it is a
super enhanced c64, it runs on 6510 onto top of javascript, it has
super enhanced BASIC, I could go on but it's wasted on these people.
No matter what the purists think, a pure real c64 device just could
not be marketed to the masses, and it would need to be to manufacture
the real chips that it would need, most of the manufacturing
technology doesn't even exist anymore. So just get over it and join us
in the future.

Again, as I've tried to explain, the sv6510 could be coded with pue
6510, enhanched BASIC (backwards compatible *and* compatible with some
other BASIC languages), or Javascript and CSS3. It has all the
external ports you need for extensibility and more. You could even
code desktop apps using BASIC!
I am first and foremost a DEMO CODER. I loved the style and ease of
development on the c64, and I want to bring that back. I've recieved
no response from C=3DUSA yet, and Jeri Ellsworth is not interested,
she'd rather work on her new successful contracting career.
If C=3D are for some reason not interested, I will start my own brand,
most likely C* with the slogan "Only Further.".
I will produce this technology and a tablet and mobile phone based
upon it, with or without the Commodore brand or the nerdified c.s.c
community (it seems few of my old demo scene friends frequent this
group anymore).
I have recieved some good feedback and input from a few scene friends,
and that is all the support that I need. After all, it is they who
would be coding the software for it, not the insular and rather
pointless project nerds found here.
I can understand it may be difficult to realise the potential of this
device, but believe me, it would be 100% C64, just superpowered and
marketed at tech enthusiasts and people who want an alternative to the
usual so/so brands of handheld devices with their shit design and
software.
I believe the sv6510 could carve a solid niche in the IT industry
worldwide, and you are going to be surprised just how fast this will
happen. It's not just marketed at tech savvy nerds like the Pandora
and it's ilk, but it will be more powerful for any IT hobbyist,
without the need to pick up a soldering iron.
That is all I have to say here, anyone else with input please either
email me or move the conversation to the official Commodore forums.
Cheers,
Damian Caynes

So it`s a project supposedly aimed at people like me, but marketed by a
buffoon with zero people skills.
Good luck with that.

Bill McEwen style marketing hype and vapourware doesn`t inspire me,
impressive products do.
When your SV6510 thing is ready for sale, do let us know so we can all be
impressed.
Good luck with it.

I'd like to have a phone with Commodore Basic.
If you switch it on you can use it in less then 2 seconds. And you can
run Commodore Basic programs. :)
There's a Commodore Basic app for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch)
I've used it and it's amazing. It's NOT a C64 emulator so it won't run
M/L programs, just BASIC.
