Commodore PC-10 III on eBay, near Toronto

  • Follow

Hi all,

I thought I'd bring this auction (not mine) to your attention:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2783369170&category=51107&
rd=1

I originally thought of buying this for a 64HDD system, but it's a 8086
which isn't powerful enough. Some interesting parts though:

-Commodore branded case (could swap the innards)
-Commodore case badge
-720K floppy (isn't this what the 1581s use?)

Also interesting to note that it has a TV output. Glad to see Commodore
still had that as a capability in their (ill-fated) PC line.

If nobody else grabs it, I might buy it anyway, as it's all of $5. I could
pay for it with the loose change in my car seats. :-)

$45 dollars shipping to the states and the nice markings on the front
aren't worth it :( Otherwise would have been cool.

Drop a Pentium I board in and install Linux... You can use it as a 1581
using the modified Over5 code. :)

Looking at it, it looks like they didn't use standard AT components
(or even XT for that matter).

Ever use pee see Geos? Is it anyting like the C=64/128 version? If so,
these things might almost be tolerable. Just remember 640k of pee see
ram is equal to maybe 192k of Good Computer ram.

It is rather small but PC GEOS has a somewhat different look and feel but
still GEOS. It starts with a selection option for 4 sepate choices and one
is the C:\ prompt (DOS mode) and a couple other. One gets you to the GUI.

Something like the following link gives:

http://toastytech.com/guis/geos12.html

It supports multiple windows.

Actually, this is the among the most efficiently coded OS for the PC. Among
the smallest OS for the x86 PC with its capability that is suprisingly FAST
on an 8088. Maybe do some work on my OS concept for use on an 8086/8088 and
up. This will be about the most f*cking widest range of PC userbase f*cking
imaginable. It might get sickeningly fast fast a P4. Must start that on the
Commodore PC-10.

I think this is going to be intriguing.

Then the 65xx family, this will take it over the planet. At an unknown range
of capable uses ???????

Can one imagine being on the net with an 8088 with the PC-10 original board
???? BTW: 8088 is an 8 bit CPU so by technicality - it is a Commodore 8-bit.

Hallo Rick,

No, 8088 is 16 bits, with an 8-bits wide bus. Just like the 65816.

For Leife,

Is that an EGA card inside the PC? Or maybe an ATI Grapjicla Solution?

Apparently it's a Hercules Monochrome adaptor. That's going back a ways in
the PC world :) I'll take some photos of the insides if people are
interested. I'm picking it up today after work.

Ok, but internal registers don't count. :-))

Sounds interesting. I hate to admit it, but my laptop is a Tandy
1400LT, with a V20 (i8088 compatible) CPU. Where can I download pee
see Geos? Does it require a hard drive?
