Got DTV! How about a cartridge port?

  • Follow

Got DTV! So far my review is:

Excellent construction. Design feels like it'll hold up over time.

Despite what few have said, the game lineup is not bad. Infact, the
amount of good games vs OK games is greater then any of these units
out yet. (Paradroid, Jumpman Jr, Summer/Winter Games are all classics
in my book)

The hidden mini games are pretty good for mini games too.

That said, I have came up with an idea. How hard would it be to make
a cartridge port? Is enough of the bus available? If that's not
possible, is enough of the ROM available so that you could solder in a
ROM socket or, maybe make a DTV-only cartridge port that's based on
the pins of the ROM? Or better yet, just make something we can
download programs into a RAM Drive via serial port! :)

Nope, doesn't look like it.

The ROM is just a bare chip under a blob of epoxy.

How do you get access to the mini-games?

I don't have mine yet, should be arriving any day now.... and I want to know
how to get to BASIC and how to get at the mini-games.

Mostly, however, I can't wait to get into Impossible Mission again!

Sean.

What I mean is, are the traces to this ROM chip accessible? Would it
be possible to solder on wires to those traces and then solder a
different rom chip to those wires? Or expanded further like I
suggested?

At 5:50 p.m. today I left for therapy on my arm, and when I
returned at 8:30 p.m., a huge box from QVC was at my front door, holding
the nine C64 DTV's I had ordered. Paraphrasing Scotty from Star Trek IV,
"Captain, there be DTV's!" :-D

P.S. Like I was joking with Jeri back at Thanksgiving, that pyramidal
packaging of the C64 DTV is conducive to the collection and release of
power (if you believe in that mystical stuff). ;-)

The question is - would playing video games be helpful or harmful to
your therapy? :-)

Helpful to my therapy! Just as long as I don't put more than 15
pounds of pressure on the DTV stick! ;-)

Sounds like your restrictions might be helpful to the continued health of
the DTV also. ;-)
