Keying 64HDD-Geos D64?

  • Follow

Has anyone successfully keyed the special 64HDD D64 Geos disk from
Maurice's site? 64HDD's site says it is pre-keyed, but when you try to
run it no go. Booting to Geos with an original disk and trying to key
this image (on a real floppy) is a no go too.

Hi,

What device number are you trying to run the image from? It should
only be run from device #8 or #9. I haven't checked the image on the
CMD site for ages (but should not have changed in that time either).

Cheers,
Nick

Hey Nick! Good to see you still here!

Yes, I was using an original Geos 2.0 disk which only supports drive 8
and 9. The keying program seems to want it in drive #15, which is
impossible with an original Geos. I can take a screenshot if you wish.
I also heard there is a version for Geos 128 in the wild, is that
true?

Hi,

Just downloaded GEOS_SLO.D64 from the CMDRKEY site, put it on my 64HDD
box, attached the image as device #9 (device #8 is the internal drive
of my C128D). In C64 mode, loaded the first file then choose option 1.
Loaded first time no issue - D64 image is pre-keyed, meaning it will
work with the other applications (geoWRITE, etc) which Maurice also
distibuted as free from his site.

The only thing I noticed is Maurice looks to have removed the
GEOS_FST.D64 image that used to be available a while back. The SLO
driver is the conventional IEC protocol, hence truly slow but should
work on every 64HDD config. The FST uses the custom fastloader built
into 64HDD.

64HDD professional does have a better GEOS driver set, and the C128
version of 64HDD prof includes C128 support (has since 2003(?).

Hope this helps, else contact me via the 64HDD website with specifics
of what you've tried, errors, etc.

Cheers,
Nick

Nick, I've tried writing the 64HDD_SLO.D64 to a 1541 disk and during
boot it says that system is not keyed and stops. Do you know if maybe
you have an older version that is properly keyed and what's on
Maurice's site might be a cruel joke?
