KIm-1 9 digit Basic: ask Bill for help

  • Follow

On this page http://www.geocities.com/msxhans/kim1.html
you can find the image of cassette and the manual of the KB-9 Microsoft Basic
interpreter for the KIM-1
In 1977 you could call Bill Gates, Paul Allen or Monte Davidoff, the authors of
the Basic interpreter for the 6502, for assistance :)
This is one of the oldest versions of Microsoft Basic for the 6502! And also one
pf the first Microsoft products, in those years it was mainly an OEM business.

I have bought this program in 1978 and used it a lot. Internally it is very
close to the PET and OSI basic versions.

Hey Hans,

You should post this to slashdot.org - they love this kind of thing!!
(Just find a few mirror sites first) :-)

Hallo Hans,

> you can find the image of cassette

I thought of a tape-image, not a real one :/ Isn't there a chance
that you can provide us with a binary or so? TIA!

:) the original cassette looks so nice :)
Patience Ruud, the real image will come once I have time to get the KIM-1
cassette recorder and memory expansion working again.
There is more I want to dump, like the MicroAde assembler/editor. And ofcourse
the Pascal-M interpreter.

The program file is now also online, together with manuals and programs for the
following KIM-1 programs:

- Microsoft KIM Basic 9 digit
- Microchess by Peter Jennings
- Micro-ADE assembler/editor by Peter Jennings
- CW Moser ASSM/TED macro assembler
- Q-chess
- Tiny Basic
- Focal

The programs are read from cassette on a PC with the KIMTAPE program. I am
amazed how well the cassettes are readable after so many years!
