Hello.
I'm trying to load and run an old c64 file I have
called GLADIATOR.OG3 . I used winvice
c1541 to write it to a .d64 image and it LOADs
but won't RUN. Is there such a thing as a .OG3
file?

"Gladiator" sounds like the old demo, but .og3 sounds like some kind of "Ogg
Vorbis"-type sound file extension. Dunno... is the file, by that name, old?
Anything odd about it, like the filesize? What's the start address?

Where did you get it from?
I don't see any demo named that here:

That's it. I think it went by various names, but "Gladiator" is the one
familiar to me (I've never encountered "Trap" before).

It is about 28K. I owned a computer store and
sold C=. It is a music and graphics demo
with a 'gladiator' hitting a tympani to the beat
of the music, and a little guy in a spaceship
looking down at earth.
I don't know how to tell the start address.
The first eight bytes are:
FF FF 00 01 11 01 A2 9C
I saved the file from that time, about 1988.
I want to see and hear it again, using VICE.
It apparently loads OK, as it finishes loading
and gives READY. But RUN results in error.
I'll try some of the demos others have mentioned.
Thanks

Thanks. I got it from some Commodore BBS
in 1988.
I'm probably not doing something right, as
the same thing happens when I try to 'RUN'
the TRAP demo from URL above as what
happens with my *.OG3 file.
I get a 'syntax error in 273', and can LIST
I get four lines of code starting with 273.
I'm putting the file on a .D64 image using
'write TRAP.P00 TRAP.P00' in c1541.
Then I attach the .d64 image in X64.exe,
LOAD"TRAP.P00"
it finds it and 'LOADING'
then finishes with 'READY'
then I type RUN and get the syntax error.
and can LIST four lines of code.
I think I tried SYS49152 also, which just
goes back to 'READY'.

Download the .PRG file and just drag and drop onto the C= icon.

I downloaded the cnet_trap_demo_(ratt).p00
file from the URL you gave. I'll look again,
maybe there's a .prg file there.
Drag and dropy the .p00 file and it doesn't run.
I appreciate your help.

Well, since you have a working .prg file, I guess it doesn't matter. Have
fun with Daglisch and Ratt! (Incidentally, if you remove the first 26 bytes
from a .p00 file, like the one you DL'ed first, you should end up with a
working Commodore file.)

"Trap" was a game by Tony Crowther, published by Alligata. It's a
vertically scrolling shoot 'em up. (I like it a lot, but it got mixed
reviews on release)
Like a lot of Crowther's games, there were hidden things to discover.
Holding shift and typing RATT on the title screen gives access to the
"cheat" menu, allowing the player to change parameters like number of
lives and orbs carried (allowing the player to start with a better
ship).
Get a high score and enter DEMO into the high score table to get the
"Gladiator" demo - there's a countdown and then the demo itself
starts. The music is by Ben Daglish. (The group name given is W.E.
Music - WE Make Use of Sound In Computers) Another interesting aspect
- the original tape version came with a "stereo" mix of the music used
in the Gladiator demo, created using 2 C64's.
The demo was then re-used to promote the Compunet network over here in
England, with an added logo at the top of the screen and a second
scrolling message at the bottom of the screen.

That's interesting. The demo has been making the PD rounds in the U.S. for
years and years, and I never knew it was part of a game. I wonder whether
they wrote it first and incorporated it into the game because they liked it,
or if they wrote it while working on the game and it was extracted.
I have a disc around here somewhere of "Daglish & Ratt" proto-demos, and I'm
also wondering whether they were parts of games, too.
