Monitor for the 128??

  • Follow

Guys,

I picked up an old monitor with the following specifications.

MAGNAVOX professional PC Monitor 80
model# 7bm623074g May 1986

It has a cable with a 6pin din connection on the monitor side.
and a 9pin connection (all pins present) on the end of the
connector.

Any chance anyone has seen this unit or tried it on a 128
for 80 column mode? I don't want to duplicate the
horror stories on here of blowing my 128 with the wrong
monitor type.

Can Anyone help?

Update on this: It appears that it is monochrome.
Here's a picture of the unit I have.

Will this work on the 128?

Thanks Guys,

Not without damaging it (the monitor) I believe. I once asked Ray
Carlsen about a HGA/Monochrome monitor and it's not quite compatible
like CGA/EGA is.

I believe it is a Hercules monitor just like the Commodore 76DM13 monitor I
have. They have the same bluish screen, the same type of connector and both
are 12" and monochrome. If this is the case, the answer is no, it won't
work. I have tried it and despite of trying several different values for the
VDC registers, I couldn't get any sensible picture. The picture was mostly
unreadable scrolling garbage. However, I don't think it damages the C128 to
try to connect it although I can't guarantee it. The monitor will work with
a Commodore PC-10 computer.
