There are two emulators for Windows which are more popular than the
others: CCS64 and WinVICE. I personally prefer WinVICE because it has a
nicer GUI but CCS is very good, too. WinVICE ist free, CCS64 is
shareware (30 US$).
CCS64: http://www.computerbrains.com/ccs64/
WinVICE: http://www.viceteam.org/
For scene news you can start at www.c64.sk which is a very good news
portal. www.lemon64.com is another popular place to visit. But there are
many more.

Not everyone agrees about which emulator is the best one, but many lean
toward VICE.

1. There are repeated posts about this subject to this and the other C64
related groups.
2. This really _isn't_ an appropriate post to this group. You should post
this kind of question to comp.emulators.cbm.
3. Oh dear, I see that you already have. Cross-posting is also generally a
no-no, especially where it is off topic.
Personally, I wouldn't have answered your question because it was so rudely
made (three strikes *tsk tsk*). Please track-down and try to abide by
usenet etiquette. We have trouble enough here with one certain individual;
people may not be so toleratant.
Daniel.

While I wholeheartedly agree with Daniel, I'd also like to welcome the
OP back to the C= community. You're welcome with any Commodore specific
questions to this group, but please post emualtor questions in more
appropriate places. The forum at Lemon64 (http://www.lemon64.com/forum)
is a good place to start, as is the relevant emualtor newsgroups.
Oh, and get a *real* C64. Much more fun than an emulator ;-)

Aren't you being a bit harsh? The questions seems to be perfectly
reasonable for this group. They have been asked before, and will be
asked again; that is the nature of newsgroups. It is not reasonable to
expect that someone new to this group knows what has been discussed in
the past. If only posts about subjects that haven't been discussed
before were allowed in this group, I don't think we would see much
traffic here. It would be nice if there were a good, up-to-date, FAQ for
comp.sys.cbm, but to my knowledge there is none. comp.emulators.cbm may
have been a better place to ask these questions, but many postings I
have seen here are far less topical than this one.

I have to say that I agree with Peter. While this is no place for an
in-depth discussion of emulators, a simple question with a simple answer does
not hurt anything. Also, flaming a newbie is certainly no way to welcome him
to the newsgroup. In my opinion (please note the word "opinion") the best
way to kill a newsgroup is to insist that 100 percent of the posts be 100
percent on topic.
FYI, before I hit the send button, I intend to put on my asbestos suit!
