Pet 3016

  • Follow

Hi,

Just recently acquired a Pet 3016 that was sold as faulty. The machine
briefly displays random garbage, and the the screen blanks. Subsequent
power cycles sometimes causes the machine to display a flashing cursor
and may respond to keyboard input before freezing.

I thought maybe a good place to start would be with the roms. The
machine has basic 2.0 roms installed, and I've burnt some 2532 EPROMs
and replaced all but the screen editor rom - because this one is a 2k
type. I don't have any 2716's for this; could I use a 2532 but just
program the 2k image?

Cheers,
Fergus

Considering the symptoms are not exactly the same each time the PET is
powered up I would try reseating the chips first, and if that doesn't
help take a close look at the power supply (the electrolytic capacitors
may have dried out after all those years).

Hello Fergus,

You can use the 2532 and program the 2k image. The 2516 has 10 adress
lines and the 2532 has 11. Connect adress line 11 (pin 18) to ground.
