I'm looking for PDFs of Compute! magazine (not the gazette). I have
several of them in print (one of which is the December 1987 issue with
the Mystery Mania type-in). I've seen some who have scanned many issues
online, but no one has posted anything to the newsgroups that I can tell,
nor have they made a torrent available. Can anyone post what they have
in an appropriate newsgroup, even if it is not the *complete* set?
Thanks!

Hi. Does this mean that the remaining issues won't be posted until these
two are found? And if that's the case, why not? Thanks!

Hello. I am actually one of the few that have started putting issues
of Compute! online. Our website (http://www.electronicarchives.org)
is unique as it will provide a full text and searchable index of the
issues. I do not have either of those two issues in hardcopy, but
would be willing to provide the files if you wanted to send the issues
to me. I have been using a scanner that doesn't require us to cut the
spine so we can keep the magazines in tact. If you are interested,
please submit the form from our website at:
http://www.electronicarchives.org/contribute.html
I am also interested in obtaining other issues as well for scanning,
as we just started this project and have barely started trying to
scrape together the hardcopies.
Thank you!

How about scanning BYTE magazine? That hasn't been done as far as I know.

There have been some parts of those magazines scanned like the great
covers and a few select articles.
I agree though, I've looked for a good scanned archive of Byte (all
pages to at _least_ one issue) and haven't found one. I haven't
searched real recently but a quick Google shows not much seems to have
changed (unless I missed a site).
It was a great magazine I'd hate to see those not be preserved as
scans.

You mean for Compute! magazine? I think I ran across one other
website that had various issues scanned in, but they were in a format
that didn't really resemble the original layout and not very easy to
search for articles. Plus, the images could have been enhanced
somewhat for easier screen reading. My focus has been to get them
online in a nice format that is easy to view and search, which is why
I started www.electronicarchives.org. If anybody has access to the
scanned images of the above mentioned issues of Compute! (I'd prefer
raw/uncompressed TIFFs if possible), I would be more than happy to put
them online into our system so that they are available for all on the
Internet. We have the rights to display them in the original
(unchanged) format. I'm also open to suggestions on how to improve
the site as well.
Unfortunately we don't have rights to display Byte magazine, however
this might be something that we could look at down the road.
Again, if anybody has any content of Compute! that could be placed
online (like scanned images, etc), please go to
http://www.electronicarchives.org/contribute.html and submit the
form. There I will respond and go from there.
Thanks!

Anyone care to post what they have? I think we can rule out
participation by the buffoons who insist on having a complete collection
before sharing.
