Uiec Question

Is anyone out there working on software (sort of like BCopy, but that
WORKS) for the Uiec that is either a WHOLE HARD DRIVE COPIER or a
WHOLE PARTITION COPIER?
I've tried to use CBM COMMAND, FCopy, U-1541, Maverick, Omega-Q II,
fast Hack 'Em, and a few others ALL TO NO AVAIL!
What I would like to do is to just load the software, select the CMD
HD as the Source and the Uiec as the Target and then press enter and
GO!
Unfortunately, all the programs that I've tried all require that I
have to sit in front of the 128D FOR HOURS ON END just copying file by
file, or in the case of the CBM COMMAND a set of files at a time
leaving me helpless in the area of trying to make COMPLETE backups of
my CMD HD, My Syquest Data Carts, and my Jaz Drive!

So if it is at all possible to perform this task, please let me know
how to do it ( and MAKE IT SIMPLE as I have a learning disability
making it hard for me to retain memory capacity, and retaining
knowledge).

Thanks again and have a great day!

  Charles

If you have Jiffydos installed on c64 or c128, it supports multiple file
copying out-of-box.

It goes:

1. Load the directory to memory using load"$",dn where dn is the SOURCE
drive. Do not use the @$ command.

2. Set the destination drive with @x command, for example to drive 9 it
is @x9, and source drive with @#, for example @#10 sets drive 10 as source.

3. List the directory with command LIST, then press CTRL + A keys. An
asterisk should appear to directory listing.

4. Go to a free line and give command RUN, then press return. Drives
start to do their job and you can go for a coffee.

This copier is not the fastest one, but at least it is installed inside
jiffydos and supports multiple files. It uses jiffydos routines so
drives supporting it are pretty fast. As you already have Cmd HD and
uiec, I think that you also have the Jiffy in the c128D.

Here is a link to jiffy user manual:

http://www.go4retro.com/products/jiffydos/

Read the manual, there is a GOOD explanation how to use Jiffydos.

My 2 cents.

Thanks again for the "2 cents," as it is much appreciated. However,
I already know all this and also have the manual and have used the JD
File commands before. So I guess I will have to check deeper into this
and check and see if it will copy THE WHOLE HD CONTENTS for me (which
I do doubt as I believe that I have to manually switch directories
which defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do).

   Thanks again,

  Charles

Oh and 1 MORE THINGY! Does anyone out there in Commieland have ANY IDEA whatever on what these two switches on top of the UIEC do? How do I work them? Do I have to program them in some kind of a way or are they for "decorative purposes?"

 Thanks,

  Charles

They're used for swap list navigation according to the blurb.

Uh ok. "HOW" exactly do I get them to work as mine do nothing?

 Thanks again,

I may add a DNP image creator to CBM-Command V3, but it will still require =
you to select a partition first. I seem to remember that Bo Zimmerman alre=
ady wrote a program to create DNP images and store them on 64HDD partitions=
(which is of course, painfully slow). Using JiffyDOS, it should be much f=
aster writing to something like IDE64 or uIEC.

If you want to do a whole disk backup, you'll need a SCSI card to plug into=
with the drive and to read the whole disk using something like Norton Ghos=
t on Windows or using dd on GNU/Linux.

Now, it could be possible to automate the selection of partitions (just enu=
merate over all 256 of them) and create a DNP file for each one if I create=
 a DNP reader/writer for CBM-Command V3.
