 .depot files are tar archives.  It is possible to get the files out
of one with 'tar xvf some.depot'.  The files that tar unpacks may also
be compressed with compress or gzip.  You would need to uncompress them.
A normal swinstall will run control scripts as part of the install and
configure.  You might have to study those scripts to see how to configure
in your own installation directory.
