it took about 6 hours for installing Oracle 10g RAC in HP-UX

  • Follow

Hi Guys,

I Want to install Oracle 10g on 2 HP 9000 box. I started by reding the
oracle documents. Everything installed well. but when i was executing
dbca to creating database everythig started. For creating ASM Partition
(2*12G) it took about 1 hour to complete. After that to create database
it took about 5 hours to complete.
I have a same problem when i was to import data to database when i
create datafile.
when i was installing Oracle 10g database it warned that i missed
"Jun03GQPK11i_AUX_Patch(B.03.10.29)" software.
What is that software? it seems that is something like quality package.
but i installed HP-UX 11i June 2004 and GOLDQPK11i jun 2004 and every
patches that oracle said in Oracle RAC document.
CPU Idle time is about 100% in both boxes.
Is this problem related to JAVA?Is it necessary to install JAVA patches
too?

Please advice.

Not ok. What for hardware are you using ?

It meens that is the GoldPack June 2003.

Good.

At HPUX 11.0 and Oracle 9 we had a simliar Problem. The Java GUI timed
out. It was a oracle problem. But I don't know how our dba had solved
the problem - I think it was the wrong version of java for the install
used - but i will ask him at monday.

Alternative, have a search at irc.hp.com

Thank you Lars,

Hardwares are 2 Hp 9000 servers (9000/800/L3000-7x)
I found that warning about Jun03GQPK11i_AUX_Patch(B.03.10.29) is a bug
in oracle and i should ignore it.But the main problem still exist. If i
want to do enything in oracle it will take a very long time.I think
there is a diffrence between my problem and yours.WHEN I CREATE A
DATABASE WITH DBCA IT CAN FINISH IT SUCCESSFULLY BUT TAKE ABOUT 6 HOURS
TO DO (without any timeout)!!!!!

Yes, it is a different problem like mine.
On which operations are oracle slow ? - Have you looked with glance on
your machines, and check for performance/kernel parameter issues ?

Strange.
What does oracle or the search at itrc (itrc.hp.com) say ?

I did not find anything in itrc.hp.com. i sent this question for them
too. I installed Oracle RAC without any problem, but everything started
when i wanted to creat database with DBCA. I think problem is from disk
array or san switch. i arranged a test. i copied a file ( with 4 G
size) from local HDD to another local HDD, it took about 6 minutsto
complete. another time i copied form local HDD to SAN (exactly that
file with 4 G size) it took about 40 mins to complete. Is it usual? is
the disk array has something to configure the speed?
I have a HP Disk system 2405 & HP storageworks SAN switch 2/8-EL.
I did not change the SAN Switch configuration at all, and about Disk
array just made aome LUNs.Is this problem because of miss configuration
on these devices?
I arranged another test, i creat a local database ( just in one
server), it took 6 mins to complete. So i strongly think that my
problem related to Storage devices. What is your idea?

It is not OK.
I think the DS2405 is for clusters only with point to point supported -
but I think it works well.
Check the port settings and the speed settings on your server (fcmsutil
/dev/tdX)/ switchport (portshow/portcfgshow) and array / switchport. The
speed settings an the topology must be the same/matching per pair.
Can you post the output of these commands ?
Are the array attach redundantly ? - Test the performance again, with
the alternate path - If configured.

Ahm, you can only access the single harddisk at the ds2405, so you can't
make any luns.

Looks like a san or storage problem. Have you already installed the
latest FC, LVM and vxfs patches ?

What aboout your syslog ? - Any messages ? - Are the diskdrive in the
2405 ok, or have you some read/write errors ?

For a good measurement of performance issues you can download and
install glance an measure ware (free trial at openview.hp.com or
software.hp.com).
Also bonnie is a good tool for storage stress test.

Thank you Lars.

Yes, you are correct, problem is miss match speed in Disk Array,Switch
& fiber channels. I fixed the configuration and I think everything is
correct, but i have to setup some test.

Alireza
