I use Conn4x and find it very friendly and easy to use.
Details and download link can be found here:

Oops, I just now noticed the subject line. Sorry. I don't know
whether or not Conn4x works with the HP 48GX.

I have used the older Hp graphing calculator connection kit (the one
with the faithful doggie). It is actually a very old program but
still works with both XP and Windows 7. Of course I had to buy a USB
to RS-232 converter for my newer Windows 7 machine, but it works
fine. I actually bought two converters, a high priced one ie about
$30 that worked after I downloaded an updated driver. I later bought
a $10 one (different brand) as a spare because it was such a GOOD
DEAL!!! That one doesn't work! I am not sure why, but wasted $$$
poorly spent. But it does show, you often get what you pay for...

Conn4x works great with the 48GX. Read the Help file (under XModem
Library Topic) for details on how to download the HP48 Server library.
Once installed, it works pretty much like the 50g.
You use the File / Download HP48 Server command.
Bill (who wrote Conn4x).
