Newer 49g+ lcd's of lower quality?

  • Follow

After getting a replacement for a 49g+ with a defective keyboard, and
comparing it to my old one, I noticed that it is of much lower quality.
When the contrast is set properly, the newer calculator's lcd has worse
contrast (the unshaded pixels are darker than they could be). Other
than that the calculator is better in all respects, although key
consistency and hardness could be improved.

Using [ON]&[-] you can reduce the contrast
Now you may have a different opinion about the LCD?

Unfortunately, I still think the new lcd is of poorer quality. If you
remember the older multipixel lcd displays, there would always be
banding in the background pixels. As I said before, when the contrast
is set properly (on both calculators), there is slight banding in the
background (though nowhere near as bad as some that I still have). I
can adjust the contrast a bit lower to get rid of it, but then the
stuff on the screen is lighter and harder to see. This problem isn't
very serious, and I probably wouldn't have noticed without doing a
direct comparison, but it's still weird to see.

isn't it because there are pixel columns that have almost no pixels switched
on? maybe this results in different resistivities which gives this effect.
if all pixel were randomly scattered the banding effect wouldn't be.
