Is the USB Cable that come with the HP 50G a "normal" USB cable?
I can buy another cable in any store, or the USB cable have some
special characteristics ?

What about the serial cable. Is there any place where I can get one ?
Why is it so particular ?

Thanks.

Serial cable had to be different from USB
(Although it was written in the manual on 48GII,
there were 'problems' since users tried to connect it to USB,
because connector was the same type)

Further :
Since CPU is delivering 3.3V logic (not RS232 levels) designers figured
power should be available on the connector
for 'level shifter' which would be bilt in the cable connector.

I guess they choose that particular type because they wanted to use
different type from the older models due to signal levels
incompatibility, old cables would not work.
-from what i said before -users don't pay much attention to users manual
-this way users wouldn't get the idea to connect the old cable expecting it
to work

so much for now,

I have every Calc HP made ....

The 49G+ does not work . It skips keystrokes , it is
not true USB , but simply the old RS232 protocol ,
       thats why Hyperterminal

If only they would have copied a good OpSys like
Forth , that is modular ans structured ....
  Blame it on Luddite programmer

  JYA .

     49G+ uses perverted/inverted logic ,
so theres no place to put low level proceedures .
Unless you want to be upside down and place

lowest level Proc's in [Home] and create
6 to 8 subdirs below Home
 that store the [Mid-Level] proc's !!!
Forth is the most perfected structure ever .
It has no fwd refernces , its Hi level calls lower
levels ( "Mid-Levels") and they can call
each other or call lower "Primatives"
Primatives can call each other or assembly code !
This last part makes it the worlds easiest
 Macro-Assmbler ! Imagine unconditional ,
unrestricted Macro !! No manual needed ...

HP is malicious at programming ...
right up with Bill Gates ...

You can see the PDA hardware breakthru's , like
100 GB HDD , WIFI and ewForth

but there is no hope for pocket calc's ........

They're not "breakthroughs," they're pretty clearly evolutionary steps
beginning with "desktop PC" hardware and, as it becomes smaller and lower in
power consumption, sticking it into laptops and then PDAs.

As has been pointed out many times, one of the major limitations on the
hardware "fanciness" of a calculator is the expected battery life: Months or
years, vs. days for a PDA.
