Running 49g libraries on 50g

  • Follow

Hello,

Do libraries written for the 49g run on the 50g? I have taken the
following steps:
(1) I have a library (Reflibgx.49f) that I transferred to the 50g
(2) I stored the library in a port.
(3) I have attached it to a folder
(4) I go into the library menu and push the soft menu key and....

The computer spits back "Library 1768: Reflib...". It does not
actually run the library. I have tried storing the library in Port 0
and Port 2; along with attaching the library to the home folder and a
new subfolder under the home folder. I have gotten other libraries to
run, but this one doesn't.

I thought the 49g and 50g were pretty much the same, but is there a
difference where the 50g cannot run 49g libraries? If I need to
convert the library is there "an app for that?"

Thanks

The 49 and 50 are identical except for the 50's serial port. If a
library doesn't use the serial port, it should run on either one.

Libraries are almost all self-attaching, so you don't have to do
that.

There's a reflib on hpcalc, but it's for the HP48. If you give a
location for the 49 version, we could test it out for you.

Hi!, Befuddled HP50:
The Library 1768 has been created for HP48G series and unless the
source code is in ASCII, you can not convert the series HP49G/HP48GII/
HP49G+/HP50G, and unless the source code is in ASCII, you can not
convert the series HP49G/HP48GII/HP49G + / HP50G.
I was looking at the format string and I OBJFIX converted to binary
format, but you can not install because you can corrupt memory in the
series HP48GII/HP49G+/HP50G. If you install the library in port 0, 1
or 2 and with ON + F3 to reset, no reset, try again and press the
Backspace key (<-), repeatedly.
Then with the FILER (FILES), delete them from the ports and the HOME
(VAR).

Best Regards.

Hi, Befuddled. :-)

I transferred that HP48 library into my 48 emulator and used a library
splitter to get ther source code. It's all UserRPL and installed okay
on the 49G+, although I had to rename the About file because of a
conflict with one of my libraries. It will be fine on an HP50G. Since
I know nothing about refrigeration, I couldn't test it very well, but
at least it doesn't crash. Numbers in, numbers out.

So the problem is how to get it to you. I could either post the
source code here so you can copy and paste (it's 11K in size!), or I
could try sending it to you via email. I haven't done that from here
and I don't know if Google Groups (which I'm using) reveals email
addresses. Let me know what you think.

I can also upload the 49/50 version to hpcalc, but be prepared for a
long wait until it's posted there.

Hi, BeFud. Further on this: for the first time, I poked around in
User Profiles and discovered that Google indeed reveals emails. If
your email here is valid, I can send you the 49/50 library as an
attachment.

Hi!, Bill:

The Reflibgx (Library 1760, REFLIB :v30, Refrigerant Library, Version
1.0), has been created by G.Reza Zakeri, in July 10, 1999, for HP48GX.
IMHO, it is not ethical to change it even if this posted on a free
site, to be used in the following series, without the consent, of its
creator. Do not you think?.

Best Regards.

There's no problem here. It's not abusing anyone's intellectual
property or copyright, but simply making it available on another
platform. Of course it means extra copies are created, but that's
what it's there for. You're the first person to even think of this.

It says nothing against porting anything from HP48 to HP49/50
(which I've done for some items on the site), but I love this part:

"In no event shall Eric or the authors of any files on this site
be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, but not limited to,
electrocution ... explosion of calculator ...)"

As Captain Renault said, in "Casablanca,"
"I'm shocked, shocked" by this irresponsibility :)

Whoa.....i didn't mean to start a legal dispute! Please don't involve
the lawyers! :-) I did talk to the author and Reza said it was okay
for me to ask for help. (Please see the attached thread below) Bill
if you are comfortable with Reza's permission my email is
rodney.starnes@gmail.com. And sir I do greatly appreicate your
efforts.

Hello Reza,

Thank you for sending the file, I appreciate it. I have been busy
with chores and have tried to get the library (49 version) to run on
my 50g over the past couple of days with no success. It recognizes
the library and copies it over to the calculator okay, and I am able
to store it in a port, but I don't think it is attaching properly.

When I go to the library menu "Refli" doesn't show up. I realize you
haven't worked on this program in a while so instead of using your
time I wanted to know if you mind me putting the program on the Google
HP chat room & seeing if somebody with more experience than me might
have some different ideas. Please let me know your decision; and
thanks for all you have done so far!

Hi Rodney,

Here is the zip file. Sorry about the delay. But I had to look for the
files. I looked on the http://www.hpcalc.org/ site. It looks like that
the hp48g libraries do not work on hp50 or 49. You can try it but do
it at your own risk. Back up your calculator first. I had once
converted the library from 48 to 49 which is also in the zip file
(Reflibgx.49f). You should try this first. Again I have not tried them
on either 49 or 50 calculators. I appreciate it if you let me know if
it works.

Good luck

Reza

Hi Reza,

I am studying at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield,
Michigan. I am going for a graduate certificate in Renewable Energy -
solar, wind, etc. It has been a while since I have been in school.
Are you still doing a lot of programming with your HP calculators, or
have better tools come along? It seems like everybody uses Texas
Instruments now. Anyway, many thanks for your help!

Rodney

Hello! I think that if you read the above text carefully, you realize
that it says nothing about the authored inputs on the site. The above
just covers "Eric's HTML documents". The copyright and ownership terms
of the hosted materials are, as they should be, specified by the authors
separately for every input.

After MACH's nonsense with Eric's disclaimers (the Net Police are
always with us), I was reminded of a CBC radio news program that ran
here in Toronto some years ago. They asked listeners to send in
examples of silly caution labels they'd found on consumer products.

- One woman said she'd bought a bottle of room freshener, and the
label said "Avoid Being Eaten By Children" (she added that she'd been
successful at that so far).

- A man travelling in Tokyo said he saw a hotel hair dryer with a
caution label that said, "Do Not Use For the Other Purpose". He said
that you can only speculate what the other purpose might be.

- A man said that he'd bought an AC adapter, and the label read
"Caution: For Indoor or Outdoor Use Only".

I could add two of my own:

- I bought a bag of peanuts and in bright red letters the package
said: WARNING: MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS.

- I bought one of those extra-long butane lighters for fireplaces and
barbecues, and a sticky label on it said, "Do Not Use Near Fire or
Flame." Hmmm....

Hi!, Bill:

I am addressing you with the respect you deserve for writing this
important forum of users, but I think you've exceeded your findings,
to me. I never thought that would be treated so lightly, on your

I think you've exceeded, your comments.
