If you want say one record but every 3 seconds then you can either store them up for a few hours days or weeks & use FTP, snads or a tape. Or you can do it realtime & use DDMF to zap each record to the other machine as its written. I actually save the data I want sending this way into a file which is read & deleted by a daemon style of job so that if comms or the other machine fails only the daemon is affected. FTP has its upside in that the target is easily resettable for say a unix machine but SNADS has an easy to use & understand message sent to the sender & recipient to verify arrival of the data. -- Jonathan Bailey. You could install the No Charge SW "Object Connect" from the OS CDs. Once setup you can issue cmds line SAVRSTLIB and SAVRSTOBJ. Give these cmds the LIB or OBJ list and the target system. It then saves/transfers/restores to the target system all with just the 1 SAVRSTxxx cmd. tom wro...

Printing on AS400 via IBM AS400 Java Toolkit
Hello all, I'm working on a program that needs to send a print job to a printer connected to an AS/400. I've tried using the SpooledFileOutputStream and I've also tried using one of the SCS Writer classes. Neither solution is working. With the SpooledFileOutputStream I am at least able to create my print file, but when my program ends, the file is still not being printed. This program does not run on the AS400, it runs on a PC and connects to the AS400 via the toolkit classes. I know this part works as I am able to use the toolkit to access Data Queues, Files and Data Areas without a problem. Is there anyplace anyone can point me to see some examples of how to print a file using the AS400 Java Toolkit? Thanks in advance, Chuck Chuck, What printer data stream is used? or how was the printer data generated? I am wondering if the data stream being generated matches the data stream of the printer connected to the iSeries? What printer is attached to the iSeries and how is it configured? The iSeries info center has some Toolbox examples: Programming>Java>IBM Toolbox for Java>IBM Toolbox for Java Classes> Access Classes>Print>Creating... oracle 9.0 pl/sql query
Hi, I am attempting to use Oracle PL/SQL queries from an Oracle 7.3.4 DB running under Windows NT (BOX A) to update an Oracle 7.3.4 DB running under solaris 2.6 (BOX B) over TCP / IP links. These standard queries worked fine. Recently we upgraded BOX B to Oracle 9.2 running under Solaris 8.0. When on BOX A , I run the sql command : insert into BGCI_TIMEOUT@LNK14.WORLD SELECT * FROM BGCI_TIMEOUT , I get the floowing errors : ORA-01003 : No statement parsed ORA-02063: PRECEDING LINE FROM LNK14 If I run the SQL query : insert into BGCI_TIMEOUT@LNK14.WORLD VALUES('GPRS','...

Oracle 7 to 9 Connectivity PL/SQL Compilation
This topic has been extensively discussed here and elsewhere, with respect to database connection. But what about compiling PL/SQL? We have a 9.2 database containing PL/SQL that needs to compile against tables in a 7.x database. So we have created an 8i 'in between' database, which contains synonyms pointing to the 7.x tables. Within the 9.2 database, it is possible using SQLPlus to select data from the 7.x tables (via database link to the 8i database). However it is *not* possible to compile PL/SQL code on the 9.2 database that references the same 7.x tables ie: 9i SQLplus -> 9i synonym -> db link -> 8i synonym -> db link -> 7.x table... works OK 9i PL/SQL -> 9i synonym -> db link -> 8i synonym -> db link -> 7.x table... does *not* work Has anybody out there used the 8i "shim" database approach to successfully compile 9.x PL/SQL code against 7.x tables. (And no, upgrading the 7.x databases to a later version is NOT an option for us) Regards, Neil "Neil" <njh3@bnfl.com> wrote in news:1127738859.646036.73120@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com: > This topic has been extensively discussed here and elsewhere, with > respect to database connection. Embedded SQL, PL/SQL in Cobol
I am new to SQL and PL/SQL and my company is considering cutting out some middleware software we have that talks to Oracle. Does anyone know of any "real World" examples of embedded SQL or PL/SQL? Jeff, Here is a very basic sample that will connect to an Oracle database. You can always expand the EVALUATE statement to include other various SQLCODEs so that you can incorporate your own error messages if desired. Also, you'll need to run this with the Oracle run-time (rtsora) or build a shared library that you make an initial call to in order to load the Oracle functions. Good ...

IBM AS400
Does anyone have some notes, documentation or helful pointers about navigating, command language and DB2 on an AS400 for a guy who has done HP3000, Windows 2k/2k3, MS SQL, HP9000, IBM ES9000/UNIX, SCO UNIX? Ideally a commands cross reference qaulivalent would be terrific - I.E. HP3000 to AS400. Thanks much. P.S. I'm taking a role in a shop that runs its ERP system on this platform. AS400 to AS400 connection issues
Hi All, We have two AS400's at different locations, and were able to passthrough and send files between both no problems. Last week one of our AS400's was moved to another location, with an IP change. We have updated the IP addresses on the other AS400 and can passthrough fine....however we can no longer send files from the new location. When I look at the distribution queue I see the following status: RTY-FAIL Any idea's as to what may be causing this? Thanks, Mike mot98@yahoo.com wrote: > Hi All, > > We have two AS400's at different locations, and were able to > passthrough and send files between both no problems. > > Last week one of our AS400's was moved to another location, with an IP > change. > > We have updated the IP addresses on the other AS400 and can passthrough > fine....however we can no longer send files from the new location. > > When I look at the distribution queue I see the following status: > RTY-FAIL > > Any idea's as to what may be causing this? run the CFGDSTSRV command and then look at all the menu options. AS400 to AS400 data transfer
Hi I need to place a trigger on a set of tables on an AS400 to fire off whenever new records are added to these tables. This trigger program will then transfer the data to another AS400 across a WAN. This will allow us to transfer orders from one system to another. Can anyone tell me how I would achieve this. Normally if it had been a PC I would have used an ODBC type application but I am not sure what is available to me for AS400 to AS400 data transfer. I know that we can transfer a SAVF by FTP but this is not a route I would like to go down. I would prefer to populate tables directly if possible. Thanks for any help offered Iain Iain wrote: > Hi > > I need to place a trigger on a set of tables on an AS400 to fire off > whenever new records are added to these tables. Even if there may be multiple way, I think the best would be using a remote journal, on the target system a journal entry exit program will be evoked at event time, so it can apply new records to the target tables, then it can fire a new event if necessary. -- Dr.Ugo Gagliardelli,Modena,ItalyCertifiedUindoscrasherAejoAlcoolInside Spaccamaroni andate a cagare/Spammers not welcome/Spammers vo merda Spamers iros a la mierda/Spamers allez vous faire foutre/Spammers loop schijten/Spammers macht Euch vom Acker/Spamerzy wypierdalac' ...

SQL from AS400
I'm using ADO to pull a recordset from AS400. Everything works fine except my SQL. This SQL was generated using Microsoft query in Excel, and it works fine, obviously, when using MSQuery. It does not work when I put it in code. The rest of my code is fine, and has been tested successfully with a different, simpler SQL. Please advise. mySQL = "SELECT CUST.CCMPNY, CUST.CSPCL4, CUST.CCYCLE, CUST.CCUST#, CPRD.CPDESC, CPRD.CPCHG " & _ "FROM {oj ARWF.JGFTYT.CUST CUST LEFT OUTER JOIN ARWF.JGFTYT.CPRD CPRD ON CUST.CCUST# = CPRD.CPCST#} " & _ "WHERE (CPRD.CPCHG In ('CW','DF','MC','MK','CK','WE','LI','GA','GR','CO','BE','BS')) AND (SUBSTR(CSPCL4,1,2) In ('CW','DF'," & _ "'MC','MK','CK','WE','LI','GA','GR','CO','BE','BS')) AND (CUST.CCYCLE In ('RW','RR','RC','TR','WR','SB','SC','ZB','1','2','10'," & _ "'11','12','13','14','15','16')) AND (CUST.CCMPNY In ('1','3','4','5','6'))" & ";" -- RMC,CPA Richard wrote: > I'm using ADO to pull a recordset from AS400. Hi, I have Oracle 9i, IAS 9.0.4, and I use Web PL/SQL. I have a only connect user from database and a role with permissions to object access. For users accessing I can't use default roles (except connect) and I can't give grantings directly from user (grant execute from package not permited by customer). How can I active the role ??? How can I keep the role active in calls between the packages??? I called a procedure with "authid current_user", and I executed dbms_session.active_role("ALL"), but then when I use other package, I can't see the others packages, althoug the role granted. oracle pl/sql -> sql server
Hello, I am an SQL server newbie. Our company has a massive application written in PL/SQL. I need to port parts of it to SQL Server. - Which SQL server version should I choose, to have a reasonable chance of porting? - Could you recommend any best practices, tools? I use Toad for SQL development on Oracle, I am looking for something similar for SQL server. Regards, Hegyvari Krisztian The latest production version of MSSQL is 2000; 2005 will be released at the start of November. Which one of those you choose depends on how compelling you find the features in 2005, and how cautious you are about porting to a version 1 product. However, given that MSSQL 2000 is already 5 years or so old, it would certainly worth be worth considering 2005. You should probably spend some time reviewing the product information here, which includes migration guides and tools for porting from Oracle: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/default.mspx As with any significant migration, tools will only take you to a certain point - porting DDL and data may be relatively straightforward, but procedural code is another matter, so you should be prepared to do a certain amount of work by hand. And of course there are all the issues of working with a completely new architecture, being able to run/monitor/backup etc a new platform, the security model etc. If your company has no previous experience of working with MSSQL, it would probably be worth looking for someone who has, otherwise there's a good ch...
