From a AS400 with a CCSID to another AS400 with different CCSID

Hi all,

I've the following issue:

- I have to move data from a AS400 with CCSID 65535 (no conversion) to
another AS400 with CCSID 37

I'm using DDM files on the second AS400 linked to the first AS400, but
reading DDM files I have the problem that data are different in the
special characters...

So I changed my job session CCSID to 65535 with CHGJOB; with that I
can see correctly DDM files data, but not the local files...

What do you suggest to do?

Many thanks in advance.

The system CCSID QCCSID is effectively moot in that scenario as far
as I can recall. What do matter are the CCSID of the job opening the
file and then reading the data, and the CCSID of the columns of the file
being opened. When the job is set to a proper CCSID, then whenever the
data is also "tagged" properly with a CCSID [e.g. column of a table with
a non-hex (non-65535) CCSID], the database will convert the data which
can then be displayed properly.

Since the data from the DDM-target system appears properly at the
DDM-source system when the CCSID in the local job is set to something
other than *HEX suggests that the target database files probably have
the CCSID tagging, and probably set properly. And because data accessed
from local database files appears incorrect when the CCSID is set to a
non-hex value suggests that the local database files also probably have
CCSID tagging, but probably set improperly.

The correction depends on the data being properly tagged, and that
programs honor the tagging by avoiding use of the *HEX CCSID. I would
start by reviewing the actual field [column] CCSID settings on a small
set of production files, verifying that the data matches or does not
match the CCSID. Then I would review what actions need to take place to
enable that all file, data, and user profiles [explicitly set each with
a non-hex CCSID()] changes can be performed some night in order that the
applications will be functioning as expected the next day; much easier
said than done.

If you want say one record but every 3 seconds then you can either store them up for a few hours days or weeks & use FTP, snads or a tape. Or you can do it realtime & use DDMF to zap each record to the other machine as its written. I actually save the data I want sending this way into a file which is read & deleted by a daemon style of job so that if comms or the other machine fails only the daemon is affected. FTP has its upside in that the target is easily resettable for say a unix machine but SNADS has an easy to use & understand message sent to the sender & recipient to verify arrival of the data. -- Jonathan Bailey. You could install the No Charge SW "Object Connect" from the OS CDs. Once setup you can issue cmds line SAVRSTLIB and SAVRSTOBJ. Give these cmds the LIB or OBJ list and the target system. It then saves/transfers/restores to the target system all with just the 1 SAVRSTxxx cmd. tom wro...

Printing on AS400 via IBM AS400 Java Toolkit
Hello all, I'm working on a program that needs to send a print job to a printer connected to an AS/400. I've tried using the SpooledFileOutputStream and I've also tried using one of the SCS Writer classes. Neither solution is working. With the SpooledFileOutputStream I am at least able to create my print file, but when my program ends, the file is still not being printed. This program does not run on the AS400, it runs on a PC and connects to the AS400 via the toolkit classes. I know this part works as I am able to use the toolkit to access Data Queues, Files and Data Areas without a problem. Is there anyplace anyone can point me to see some examples of how to print a file using the AS400 Java Toolkit? Thanks in advance, Chuck Chuck, What printer data stream is used? or how was the printer data generated? I am wondering if the data stream being generated matches the data stream of the printer connected to the iSeries? What printer is attached to the iSeries and how is it configured? AS400 to AS400 connection issues
Hi All, We have two AS400's at different locations, and were able to passthrough and send files between both no problems. Last week one of our AS400's was moved to another location, with an IP change. We have updated the IP addresses on the other AS400 and can passthrough fine....however we can no longer send files from the new location. AS400 to AS400 data transfer
Hi I need to place a trigger on a set of tables on an AS400 to fire off whenever new records are added to these tables. This trigger program will then transfer the data to another AS400 across a WAN. This will allow us to transfer orders from one system to another. Can anyone tell me how I would achieve this. I know that we can transfer a SAVF by FTP but this is not a route I would like to go down. I would prefer to populate tables directly if possible. Even if there may be multiple way, I think the best would be using a remote journal, on the target system a journal entry exit program will be evoked at event time, so it can apply new records to the target tables, then it can fire a new event if necessary. -- Dr.Ugo Gagliardelli,Modena,ItalyCertifiedUindoscrasherAejoAlcoolInside Spaccamaroni andate a cagare/Spammers not welcome/Spammers vo merda Spamers iros a la mierda/Spamers allez vous faire foutre/Spammers loop schijten/Spammers macht Euch vom Acker/Spamerzy wypierdalac' ...

CCSID problem on AS400 file download to PC
Hi I have a problem downloading a file from AS400 to PC where the file contains German language umlaut characters. The file is on an AS400 with a system language id of DEU German and a System CCSID of 65535. The file has been compiled with a CCSID of 273 - German. Within the file, the characters with umlauts have hex codes that match the expected values for code page 273. On a UK PC, I can use Client Access to download the file using the EBCDIC to ANSI conversion method and get a csv file with the correct German characters. I can also use the VB application that my colleagues are using to get the same results. My colleagues in Germany are using the Client Access express Active-X objects to download the file. The code specifies that EBCDIC to Ansi conversion is used on the download request. However, they lose the German characters. It appears from the characters that they see, that the EBCDIC to ASCII conversion used is treating the file as if it was coded as a UK file 037 and converting directly to ASCII from there. They can also use the Client Access download gui to manually get a correct copy of the file. Does anybody have any experience of using the Client Access download request active-x components in a multilanguage environment that can shed any light on what might be happening or where to go to get additional information ? Thanks, Mary > Does anybody have any experience of using the Client Access download request > active-x components in a multilanguage e...

Printing with AS400 in different subnets
Hi all, I'm not a AS400 specialist, but inherited a system with a company buyout. We have Linux servers and workstations, plus some windows workstations. The AS400 is now installed and working happily in our network. It also prints as it should on a printer (IBM NP17) in the same subnet (10.9.8.0/255.255.255.0). We have a VPN on Linux basis between two office buildings. The other subnet (10.9.7.0/255.255.255.0) where some users work in the stores also needs to print out from the AS400 to a printer (also an IBM NP17) in their subnet (office). Logged in with a client session in this other subnet that the AS400 is in (10.9.7.0/255.255.255.0), I can ping the printer from the AS400 with the command " ping '10.9.7.3' ". So the ping goes through the VPN and is returned by the printer to the AS400. When the AS400 prints, it moans that the printer is not switched on. I also added the printer name PRT02 to the host and routing table in the AS400. Why can I ping a printer but it won't print? When I use the same printer defined in the AS400 in its own subnet, it works. Just changing the same printer configuration to the other subnet does not work. We also copied the printer and queue definitions to another printer and queue PRT11 and just changed the IP addresses; to no avail. Why? All other windows systems can print on the printer. Are there some AS5400 peculiarities I should know of? Any ideas welcome. :-) LandSr Should be a plain routing issue. Ping is I...

Sending MSGQ messages to another AS400
Does anyone know of a way to send a message from one AS400 message queue to a message queue on another AS400 You need to use SNDNETMSG. This requires that you set up a function called SNA/DS (SNA Distribution Services). As the name suggests it runs over SNA not TCP/IP. To use a TCP/IP network you will need to 'wra'p' the SNA traffic in TCP/IP, you do this usinh something called AnyNet. http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.NSF/0/b56c1c34b489e7528625663d004b1797?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=1 http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.nsf/1ac66549a21402188625680b0002037e/c0e073485d35f074862569da0063626f?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,anynet Note, you'll only have to configure Anynet if your network doesn't support SNA or the lan adapters in one or both of your iSeries doesn't support SNA -- Glenn <abat1999@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:1124850659.414901.140120@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com... > Does anyone know of a way to send a message from one AS400 message > queue to a message queue on another AS400 > ...
