Singularity

Has anyone got their hands on this yet? Its officially released tomorrow but looking for reviews I see there are none as yet which is odd and doesnt bode well. Even looking for previews it seems there hasn't been any this year. It looks like the publisher isn't even trying to generate interest in this game.

Great deals at Steam (Bioshock 2 $15, Witcher Enhanced $7)

Steam is offering a lot of great prices today. Few worth mentioning are: * Bioshock 2 $15 * Witcher Enhanced Edition $7 * Dirt 2 $10 * Dirt 1 $3 * id Super Pack (All DOOM, Wolfenstein except for the last game, Heretic, Hexen, Quake) $35 * Unreal pack (All unreal games) $13 * Call of Duty Pack (All CoD games except MW2) $30 * Mount and Blade: Warband $15 * Trine - $4 (also available for same price at GoGamer for the retail version) * Overlord Pack - $5 * Grid - $5 * Torchlight - $10 I far prefer retail copies, but some of the prices there are hard to resist. -- Noman

Two PC action games of interest have retail release on June 29 in the US.

* Arma2: Operation Arrowhead - standalone expansion for Arma2. (PC only) Stated to integrate seamlessly with the original...and no doubt auto-patch Arma2. (Bohemia have been VERY active with both official and many public-beta updates ever since Arma2 was released ) * Sniper: Ghost Warrior. Xbox360 and PC. Polish Developer. Looks interesting. Uses Chrome engine. Downloadable demo is available (1.35Gbyte). Google for more info. John Lewis

I bought my first game there (was the cheapest and fastest way to get it). First it took hours to get a stable connection to the download server and now the CD key that came with the game seems not to be valid. Alpha Protocol

I don't know if anybody else has purchased Alpha Protocol, but if you haven't and are thinking of doing so, I'd strongly advise against it as it's a steaming pile of dung that should never have been released for the PC. It is riddled with bugs and menu glitches, has dated graphics and has poorly thought out save points. Add no free mouse-look into the mix and dreadful camera angle problems that make combat farcical at times and you have the turkey of year so far. 2/10 from me. -- Rob

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Single Player Campaign

I finally finished the single player campaign after getting tired of the frenetic pace of the multi player. After some reasonably dull early missions it really picks up about half way through. I loved this campaign and thought it better executed and planned than the CoD series. The writing is often witty, sometime laugh out load funny. The voice acting excellent and characters believable - unlike the up their own arse super soldiers of CoD. Sure, there are some faults - the friendly AI sometimes is not great and your team mates can't die (they can't shoot either!), but

All of the true innovation is happening in indie games these days. The concept here is quite forward thinking if not amazing. I haven't played the game yet because its $20 on Steam and this feels like something I might wait for the inevitable $10 sale, but lately I think I'm getting my money's worth for these bargain indie games. It sort of takes me back to the roots of the Atari 8bit and Atari ST days, but with much updated technology. The best part I think is the new ideas that the better technology enables? Whoever pulled off this particular concept, assuming it's as it looks,

Splinter Cell: Conviction

This is the 5th Splinter Cell game. All the previous games had the same general style in all respects. The point to make about this SC:Conviction is that it is significantly different in every respect. It's (say) "Max Payne" 2.5 ..."Just Cause Again" ....maybe even "Blood 2" .. or even "Soldier of Fortune" without the level variety. It has a story center of Sam Fisher tracking down the killers/kidnappers of his kid daughter. It is Checkpoint save only...in this case a really, really big game wrecker IMO. The stealth aspects are there but secondary to the shooter n run n hid

Unlike many people in this newsgroup, I never really liked STALKER. I loved the concept -Russians are masters of the post-apocalypse!- but the actual implementation was disappointing.
