KOTOR2: Blank Black screen bug?

I've run into something that I can't seem to figure out a way around.
On my second trip to one of the worlds, on exiting the Ebon Hawk,
instead of showing the usual load screen, I get a blank black screen.
The only thing responsive is the game's green cursor, everything else
seems to have locked up. The thing is, it's this one particular world
where it locks up. If I pop over to another planet and exit the ship,
it works just fine. Unfortunately, at this point in the game, going
here is a major plot point, so going elsewhere is pointless. It's
fairly late in the game, so I *really* don't want to have to restart.

LucasArts solution so far is to kill the process using the process
manager, and start up the game again. That's great, but the bug's
still there when I load up the autosave. Even reloading from an
earlier savegame and playing up to this point still runs me into it.

Here's my specs:

CPU: Athlon XP2200+
Video: nVidia FX5200 (driver 66.93)
Memory: 1 GB
HD Storage: 80GB Free on install drive
Sound: SB Live
DVDROM: Pioneer 115S

OS: WinXP Pro SP2
DirectX: DX9.0c (installed by the game)

Just after the uprising battle at Onderon, I got called to go to
Dantooine. On arriving at Dantooine and exiting the hawk (party
details don't matter, it locks up no matter what), the game locks up
at a black screen. The mouse pointer is the only thing visible and I
can still move that around (nothing to click on though). From the
autosave (on the hawk, sitting on the tarmack at Dantooine) if I pop
over to another planet instead (eg. Nar Shadda), I can exit the ship
just fine. Going back to Dantooine and trying to leave the ship
causes the lock up to reappear. It's fairly late in the game, and
going to Dantooine seems to be a major plot point, so it's not
something that's optional.

Possible reasons/actions:

(1) A game resource has been corrupted/not correctly installed. If this
is the case, copy your SAVE folder to a temporary location, completely
uninstall KotOR 2 and reinstall it again. Copy the SAVE back to where it
was originally, load the problamatic savegame and see what happens.

(2) The game has fucked-up a script or something. Unless you know of a
way to edit your savegame (I doubt such a tool even exists), you may be
screwed. I was going to suggest your savegame file may have become
corrupted, but since you mentioned this issue occurs with other saves, I
discarded the idea.

Try option (1) first. If that doesn't work... delete your saves and stop
playing for about a week (or at least several days). Then start fresh
with a new character with different skills/feats/powers/alignment. That
way you will have had some time to let the anger bleed-off. That's what
I'm doing right now; I got stuck on Naa Shadaar and never managed to get
the Exchange to notice me.

PC Gaming Almost Dead -AGAIN- So................ PC Industry Consortium to announce 'PC Gaming Alliance' to save PC gaming
Takahashi: Gaming Alliance stumps for PC By Dean Takahashi Mercury News 02/12/2008 The personal computer game industry has trailed behind its console brethren in recent years as easy-to-play games on the Nintendo Wii or online games on the Xbox 360 have stolen the excitement. Companies with a vested interest in keeping the PC alive as a gaming platform will soon announce a consortium dubbed the PC Gaming Alliance. According to two people familiar with the effort, it will include top industry players such as Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices as well as a number of computer ...

pc games complains about the state of PC gaming, however...
It seems to me the consoles are the ones really in trouble. The XBox is no competiton, because it can barely keep up with current gen titles and next gen DX10 titles will put the final nails in the coffin, not to mention all the good XBox 360 titles are available with better graphics on the PC and with better control. The Wii has a market with kids/grannys and such (and deserves it, I suppose with the gimmicky controller that most folks already seem to be losing interest in, so they will need some stellar titles to maintain momentum).. The PS3 has failed, plain and simple. Defeat conceded here: http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/biztech/06/19/japan.sony.ap/index.html "Reap The Wild Wind" <none@nowhere.com> wrote in message news:c82h735vd5kpmdenh7npirht49cfhjj3lu@4ax.com... > It seems to me the consoles are the ones really in trouble. > > The XBox is no competiton, because it can barely keep up with current > gen titles and next gen DX10 titles will put the final nails in the > coffin, not to mention all the good XBox 360 titles are available with > better graphics on the PC and with better control. You're leaving out just about every single sports game. The only action sports games for the PC are Madden, NBA and NHL (well, soccer, too, but I don't count that). PC doesn't even have a baseball game anymore, except for text sims. Plus, the XBox 360 still has titles like Gears of War, Dead Rising and the coming Halo 3 that w...

Good PC Game Developer and/or PC Game Programmer Newsletters?
I have been searching for a few good PC Game Developer and PC Game Programmer newsletters for some time now. I started by looking at what yahoo groups had to offer, but it was really difficult for me to really tell which ones were active. I tried out one programming newsletter few for a couple months (sorry I can't remember which one it was now), but I unsubscribed from it due to the fact that 95% of the time was spent arguing about differences between languages. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a few good mailing lists that they might like to share? Josh, May be www....

Multiplayer RPG game for one PC???
Hello everyone, I've just finished building a home theatre PC and would like to play some RPG style multiplayer games. Does anyone know and could recommend an RPG game for two players but on one PC not over LAN or internet? I'm looking for something similar in style to Baldur's Gate of Champions of Norrath on Playstation 2. Prefferably I'd like to be able to use two gamepads. So basically any adventure / RPG game for two players on one screen in co-operative mode... Any ideas??? I'd like to hear from you before going to a store and forking out the money... Al...

Black Screen on IBM Thinkpad 570
After connecting a video beamer to the external vga output and hitting "Fn+F7" once, the internal LCD went black and never came back since. The external output works fine, but the Device Manager in Win98 is not even listing the LCD anymore. I tried hitting "Fn+F7" several times, switching the laptop on/off, deleting the external monitor in the device mangager and rebooting without having it attached. Nothing worked. Is there a trick to reactivate the LCD or is this more likely an hardware fault? Do I have switched off the LCD by hitting some akward combination of k...

Black/blank screen unwakeable sleep
My MacBook Pro displays nothing but a blank screen. It starts up fine - at least I can hear the chime and the disk whirring away - but that's as far as I get. There's a long thread on the Apple forum about it and it seems to be sleep related. A solution offered there did sort things out for a day but then, on firing it up again yesterday, the black screen returns and no amount of repeating the same procedure which solved it previously, works. The previous solution involved accessing the MacBook from another Mac via target disk mode and deleting the sleepimage file and extensions.mkex...

Linux 9 Bug/Black Screen?
How can we specify during the startup sequence that we would like Linux to just boot into text mode, so that we can trouble shoot video settings? (Linux is going to a black screen after boot, just after the text mode login prompt, when it normally brings up the graphical shell. We're assuming this is due to some problem with the video card configuration.) Right now, we're hosed. -- dwa "da" <da@hotmail.com> wrote in news:10c98bqehtcq30e@corp.supernews.com: > How can we specify during the startup sequence that we would like Linux > to just boot into text mode, so that we can trouble shoot video > settings? You should be able to get a text mode shell by pressing CTRL-ALT-F1. Actually, F1 through F6 should give you new text shells. CTRL-ALT-F7 brings you back to X. When in one of the CTRL-ALT-Fn shells, become super user and edit /etc/inittab. Find the section that looks something like: # Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are: # 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this) # 1 - Single user mode # 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking) # 3 - Full multiuser mode # 4 - unused # 5 ...

Top PC RPG Games of all time?
Top 5? or maybe 10? My top 5: 1) Ultima 7: Part 2 - Serpent Isle 2) NetHack 3) Ultima 7 - The Black Gate 4) Ultima 6 5) Ultima Underworld 2 Okay there are plenty of other good games out there too, but nothing impressed me as much as the environment, the characters, the story, and the gameplay/mechanics of the Ultima games - and NetHack... well, it's NetHack! The Eye of The Beholder games were quite good too, and so were the old SSI(?) AD&D games. The original Pools of Radiance and all that - I remember finishing about three of the games in that series using the same party. Now ...

Q: How could I control or blank the PC computer screen?
I work in an application that requires visibility control of the PC screen. When the user is in contact with some peripheral device connected to the PC, then I get a signal that should turn visibility on, in non-contact condition the visibility should be off and the screen of the PC (whatever the display might be) should be blank. Is there some way I could implement that in MATLAB code? Any hint or help will be appreciated!
