I don't know it but it's BIG !
Do you have free space ?
How much, do you think, it will cost ?
Could be a nice addiction, but let's listen to someone else...

Personally, I'm not that fond of Sun equipment, so I haven't paid that
much attention to their offerings. My guess is that the rack is a
storage array, and it appears to be on the old side, so it's likely
that the total storage capacity in the array could be met or exceeded
by one large SATA drive (both 1.5TB and 2.0TB 3.5-inch drives are
currently available) -- at much lower noise and power levels.

Of course, if you already had one of these bad boys and were just
looking for an inexpensive source of spare parts, I'd say go for it.

I would go for the sign on the right. That's a nice-to-have.
And probably some of the stackable chairs.

....

For the rack (and content) ... Now - if your energy bill isn't high
enough already: go for it. I personnally would not know what to do with
SUN gear. Most likely licenses for SUN-OS are not included. And if it is
not the energy hunger than it is the licensing costs to be the killing
criteria.

If it were a rack full of R6K's things would surely look different ...

Don't forget the energy and gear needed for keeping the room temparature
below 40C, if you are not located in North Sweden or Norway ;-)

There are some options:
OpenSolaris or getting a media kit via ePay.
AFAIR Sun offers free software development tools (Sun Studio) for quite
a long time now.

> If it were a rack full of R6K's things would surely look different ...

the main difference is the flavour of the UNIX, AIX versus Solaris.
The Solaris support in most Open Source projects is very often better
than AIX support. Mainly because the shared library handling of Linux is
very close to Solaris and AIX is strange (but very clever!!!) beast.

If you don't want to play/learn Solaris go for the chairs instead.
If you want to play/learn Solaris you can use el cheapo PC and run
Solaris/x86 too.
I have Solaris/x86 2.6 running on my 9577i with Corvette / 3c529 and XGA-2

Uli, do you know where I can ... ehm... obtain a copy of Solaris ?
I'll be curious to try it ...
I've collected and tried (many of them in VM) many OSes, mainly DOS,
Windows and Linux ... and now I'm oriented towards Unix world...

after AU$300, i realized there was a vote of abscente, anyway i am happy
for those who got it, as long as it would be put to a good use.

Hi , I hope this isn't too trivial to ask, but I'm evaluating a polynomial that involve lots of terms like x^2y^2z^3, and although I can use the power function pow(a, b), I wonder if just writing x*x*y*y*z*z*z for example wouldn't be more efficient than pow(x, 2)*pow(y, 2)*pow(z,3). Blender 2.34 and Python 2.1, 2.2, 2.3
If you can run python scripts in blender 2.3x, I'll be glad to know which versions did you install. Checking at blender.org, I found that blender 2.34 is built with python 2.3. However, I don't want to perform an installation of python 2.3 if I'm not sure that it fixes my problem (I found some people saying that this problem is fixed by downgrading from python 2.3 to 2.2, and also the freeware.sgi.com python is still at 2.1.1, so I've no idea on the best option). Before playing with a custom installation of python, I'm posting the problem here with the hope that somebody experienced it and knows the solution). Here it goes: After installing Python 2.1.1 from freeware.sgi.com, setting PYTHONHOME to /usr/freeware, and installing the officially precompiled Blender 2.34, I still get this warning at Blender startup: 'import site' failed; use -v for traceback sys_init:warning - no sitedirs added from site module. Then, when I try to run the python script, I get an error stating "ImportError: No module named os". And, btw, it always dumps core with segmentation fault when I quit Blender (it doesn't matter if I tried to run the python script or not, it still dumps core if I just start blender and quit it immediatly without doing anything). cesar wrote: > If you can run python scripts in blender 2.3x, I'll be glad to know > which versions did you install. > > Checking at blender.org, I f...
