Hi!

Doesn't look to be for the PS/2 line, at least not any machine I'm
familiar with. I have keys for Models 50, 55, 56, 57 and 65 at the
very least. I also have the keys for one of my NCR 3350 machines.

The 57/77 key would be the closest to what's up for sale:

Looks like the keys in the sidepanel of old mainframe terminals (on/off
switch).

But I bet you didn't pay $8,95 for all those keys combined :-)

I did something "unortherized" one time.....it was horrible.....

Hi!

Definitely not. Ok, well, some cases I did pay a little more (even with the
shipping cost on that listing) but I got a *whole* computer as part of the
deal too!

Hi!

> > Don't forget it prevents "unortherized" access to PS/2 machines.....

Hmm...didn't see that line in the original post. Too many quotes?

I'm not sure how much "preventing" it does to the PS/2 collector...as Peter
Wendt has mentioned (included on the Ardent Tools under the 8550/70 common
devices page), real thieves take the machine home and break into it later.
So do us hobbyists. (!!)

I've had to open a locked 9533 and at least one 8550. I had my fears that it
would be horrible, but it was quick and easy. Later models in the PS/2 line
have the ability to complicate matters, what with tamper evident switches
and such.

(Has anyone ever come into a PS/2 that had the unauthorized access monitor
enabled?)

It ain't in the original post......it is in the auction dialogue......

Uh, I have heard of such things, where the unauthorized access was
enabled and then the password was forgotten. No attempts to access
system programs on a locked system have succeeded, to my limited
knowledge. YMMV

Nope. I remember the "Gatekeeper" (IIRC Sigourney Weaver) and the
"Keymaster" (ugly little fellow) from Ghostbusters, though.

Don't know if it featured IBM hardware...

I don't remember the layout of the whole advertisement, but Gateway (then
Gateway 2000) ran a series of ads in the mid-90s featuring a character known
as the "Keykeeper". They used an employee for the Keykeeper character...IIRC
a security guard who said to have frozen his "key-ster" (!!!) off for the
photo shoot. Yes, it really said that in the fine print.

I did some Google searching and came up dry apart from a posting I made in
September 30th, 2005, where I used the same line. I guess few people thought
it worthwhile to mention then. Of course, it is off-topic... :-)

Heck, I've got 8590/9590 key AND lock for $7.95.

For just an extra $1, I'll even make sure that it's the right key with
the right lock ...

IBM Memory Key ; mounting primary HD in IBM-DOS
Hi folks- I'm the proud ownter of a new 256 MB IBM USB memory key ( 22P9025 ), and I'm using on my T30 laptop. Following the instructions that came with it, I set it up so that it is bootable as a hard drive recognized by the BIOS. That worked like a charm; it boots just fine emulating a HD and comes up with a DOS C:\ prompt. I added in my usual CD drive enabling stuff (an autoexec.bat file, CD drivers, etc.) and that also works fine. I can access the CD drive fine. But, I'm having trouble mounting my primary hard drive partition(s) to be visible. I have a large FAT32 p...
