Bought one myself today.

Like this one, it _has_ the embossed star (i.e. 360 kb) but it _lacks_ the
External Diskette Adapter (FRU 15F7996)

I've heard of someone twiddling the ADF to allow "drive > B" support, but I've never tried that myself. *DOS* has a driver to run it that way (and if low-density works, high-density would too). IBM 4869 external floppy
Hi ! I've found a 4869-001 (star), I've tested the floppy in the enclosure and it works fine. I connected it to the external interface of a 5150, but I haven't figured out how to make it work. ROM bios is dated 10/27/82, and the 4869 driver disk, obviously, isn't suitable for a 5150. Someone can help me ? Thanks SuperVinx wrote: > I've found a 4869-001 (star), I've tested the floppy in the enclosure and it > works fine. > I connected it to the external interface of a 5150, but I haven't figured > out how to make it work. > ROM bios is dated 10/27/82, and the 4869 driver disk, obviously, isn't > suitable for a 5150. It's not intended to be used with the 5150 floppy controller, it was designed to be used on the PS/2 Model 60 and 80 using a "drive sled" and a minimal external controller card. However, I can't say that I ever tried it on the 5150, so it might work. Set the DIP switches on the 5150 planar to indicate that you have 3 floppy drives, and see if it works. Rick Ekblaw Hmmm ! I forgot the switches ... If you don't tell the Bios ... Bios doesn't know .... I tried to set the sw for three drives, but no answer ... So I tried the sw for four drives, and voila' ! The drive responds as drive D (drive C is ... missing !) So I opened th 4869 case to reach drive sw (19 screws!), I found it set to DS1 and I set it to DS0, but ... The drive is selected as...

As you would expect, each keyboard mates with one of the 5251 displays. It's easy to tell which display was the system console (the badly burned-in one on top) and which was the primary application console (the pretty badly burned-in one on the bottom). The one in the middle that has no visible burn-in probably saw very little use. I don't think that the value of the system will improve very much in another 10 to 20 years like the seller hopes, but everyone is entitled to dream. If anyone was interested in a set of S/36 manuals, this auction looks like a good bet, you might get a complete set and a few spares. A small bid will probably win, then you have the seller ship you all of the manuals via Media Mail, and then the seller could do as he liked with the "heavy metal" (of course, you'd have to make sure that the seller would go along with this scheme in advance).
